1. Azura Benguerra Island
Azura Benguerra is our most romantic hotel in the world because it combines a private island, villas on the beach and almost nothing else to do but be together. Tour operators list 2026 rates from about US$955 per person per night for a Beach Villa to about US$1,950 for a Royal Beach Villa, with a Presidential Villa above that.
Rates are reported by agents, include different things and change by season, so confirm with the resort or an agent. The cheapest double was listed at about US$1,940 a night on one booking site.

2. Belmond Hotel Cipriani
Giuseppe Cipriani, the founder of Harry’s Bar, opened the Hotel Cipriani in 1958. It sits on Giudecca island, five minutes by hotel launch from St Mark’s Square, and has long been counted among the leading luxury hotels in the world.
Reports put room rates from about $1,400 per night. Dinner at Oro, the hotel’s restaurant, is a Michelin-starred experience on the lagoon.

3. Taj Lake Palace
Lake Palace was built of white marble between 1743 and 1746 by Maharana Jagat Singh II as a summer palace for the Mewar royal family. It is designed to look as if it is floating on Lake Pichola, on an island of about four acres.

4. Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc
The Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc began as the Villa Soleil, built between 1865 and 1870 for writers seeking inspiration, and became a hotel in 1889. In 1914 the Eden Roc pavilion was built about 400 yards from the main hotel, in a more nautical design.
In the 1920s the American couple Gerald and Sara Murphy rented the hotel for an entire summer, an act that helped make the Riviera a summer destination.

5. La Mamounia
La Mamounia sits opposite the Kutubiyya Mosque and has 135 rooms, 71 suites and three riads that can be rented, each riad covering 700 square metres. The hotel was conceived in 1923.
Winston Churchill, Charlie Chaplin and Nelson Mandela are among the famous guests. Ask about the riads for the most private stay.

6. Belmond Hotel Splendido
Splendido stands on the site of a former Benedictine monastery that was abandoned in the sixteenth century. Ruggero Valentini turned the building into a hotel, which opened in 1902.
The 1950s brought American visitors to Portofino, and the Duke of Windsor and Winston Churchill have been guests.

7. Masseria Torre Coccaro
Torre Coccaro is a masseria resort in Puglia whose own 2026 tariff page lists B&B rates per double room per night from about €357 for a Superior Double in low season to about €1,120 for a Junior Suite Deluxe in high season. City tax is extra.
It is the best value among the luxury options here.

8. Monaci delle Terre Nere
Monaci delle Terre Nere is an estate hotel on the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily. A travel guide lists rooms from about £500 per night, though we did not find an official 2026 tariff.

9. Villas Flamingos
Villas Flamingos sits on Isla Holbox, where visitors can see whale sharks, dolphins and birds. Rooms were listed from about US$227 a night on one site, and a reviewer found a room at about US$316 a night, with the grand villa higher.
No reliable 2026 rate card was found, so treat these as guidance.
A relaxed island stay, at the lowest price on the list.
10. Evason Ma’in Hot Springs
The resort lies at the Ma’in Hot Springs, 74 km south of Amman and 264 metres below sea level, where 63 springs run at different temperatures. The hotel offers waterfall-fed pools and a spa.
One guest was told in 2025 that renovations were planned for 2026, so check what is open before you book.
