5The Great Synagogue
Also known as The Dohany Street Synagogue or Tabakgasse Synagogue, this historical building is located in the 7th district of Budapest.
And it’s the largest synagogue in Europe, as well as one of the largest in the world.
Built between 1854 and 1859, it seats 3.000 people, representing a centre of Neolog Judaism.
The Dohany street Synagogue consists of this building that we are talking about, the Heroes’ Temple, the Jewish Museum, the graveyard, and the Memorial Museum.
The 246-foot long and 89-foot wide building has a Moorish style, although its design is more a mixture of Romantic, Gothic and Byzantine elements.
And you can see those 2 onion-shaped domes, measuring 141 feet height. You can say it looks like basilicas.
Classical music anyone?
