Born in Crumlin, Dublin as the son of Tony and Margaret McGregor, he grew up in Crumlin.
While there he attended a Gaelscoil and Gaelcholáiste at both primary and at secondary level in Coláiste de hÍde in Tallaght. There he started to become interested in sport playing association football.
While playing football for Lourdes Celtic Football Club he also started boxing at Crumlin Boxing Club.
After he moved with his family to Lucan, Dublin he attended Gaelcholáiste Coláiste Cois Life.
Following that, he started plumbing apprenticeship. While living in Lucan, he met future UFC fighter Tom Egan. Together they started training mixing martial arts (MMA) together.
How did Conor McGregor start his career?
He made his mixed martial arts debut at the age of 18, in an amateur fight against Kieran Campbell. He won the game via technical knockout in the first round.
After the fight, he turned professional and signed with Irish Cage of Truth promotion.
Later he started training at SBG (Straight Blast Gym) in Dublin, trained by John Kavanagh.
He made his first professional MMA bout as a lightweight, winning against Gary Morris with a second-round TKO.
After his second fight against Mo Taylor, which he won, he made his featherweight debut in a loss against Artemij Sitenkov.
He almost took a different career path but thanks to his mother he continued to pursue mixed martial arts.
In the 2011 and 2012 he went on an eight fight win streak during which he earned the CWFC Featherweight and Lightweight championships.
Thanks to the win he became the first European professional mixed martial artist to hold titles in two divisions simultaneously.
After a meeting with UFC president Dana White, he signed a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
It followed a fight against Marcus Brimage, which marked his UFC debut.
The former UFC Featherweight Champion, Conor is currently the reigning UFC Lightweight Champion.
Throughout his mixed martial arts career, he has competed as a featherweight, lightweight and welterweight.
After starting his MMA career in 2008, he competed and won both the Cage Warriors Featherweight and Lightweight Championships, in 2012.
He holds both titles simultaneously before vacating them to sign with the UFC.
Then he won the fight against José Aldo for the UFC Featherweight Championship, with a knockout.
Because he defeated Aldo in the first thirteen seconds of the first round, the fight became the fastest victory in UFC title fight history.
With time he has established himself as the biggest pay-per-view draw in MMA history. He has main-evented four out of the six highest selling pay-per-view events in UFC history.
He is set to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr., after on the course of his career he has made public insults towards Floyd and pushed for a match with him.
At some point even Mayweather entertained the idea of the match, although he retired in 2015.
