David Letterman is an American television host, comedian, writer, and producer and his current net worth is $420 million.
Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, he is the son of Harry Joseph Letterman, a florist and Dorothy Marie Mengering, a church secretary.
Growing up on the north side of Indianapolis he loved collecting model cars, including racers.
His father survived a heart attack at age 36, when David was a young boy. Since then, the young David lived with the fear of losing his father. And at age 57, his father passed away from a second heart attack.
As of school, he went to Broad Ripple High School, and worked as a stock boy at a local Atlas Supermarket.
Instead of going where he wanted, at Indiana University, he went to Ball State University, due to his not-good-enough grades.

He hosted a late night television talk show for 33 years, from 1982 with the debut of Late Night with David Letterman on NBC, until 2015 broadcast of Late Show with David Letterman on CBS.
Throughout his career, he has hosted 6,028 episodes of Late Night and Late Show, suppressing friend and mentor Johnny Carson as the longest-serving late night talk show host in American TV history.
He became the 45th Greatest TV Stars of All Time, a title given to him by TV Guide.
Apart from his career as a TV host, he is also a television and film producer. Through his company, Worldwide Pants he has produced his show as well as The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, among others.
