The actress was born in Scottsdale, Arizona as the daughter of Krista, a homemaker and Jeffery Charles Stone, a contracting company founder and CEO.

When she was a child she began her acting career as a member of the Valley Youth Theater in Phoenix, Arizona, the same place where she made her stage debut in The Wind in the Willows.

Growing up, she kept starring in more and more productions until the age of 15 when she decided that she wants to have an acting career.

According to her, she made a PowerPoint presentation, backed by Madonna’s “Hollywood” song and named it “Project Hollywood”, to convince her parents to let her drop out of school and move to Los Angeles.

She succeeded and among with her mother moved to LA, with her education completed at home while she spent her free time auditioning.

Emma had her TV big break when she was cast as Laurie Partridge in the VH1 talent/reality show “In Search of the Partridge Family” (2004).  Thanks to this part she was able to get some other small TV roles in the years that followed.

Her big screen debut was in Superbad (2007) when she played Jules. Then a number of successful performances followed and she was able to get the role as Olive in Easy A (2010), which made her famous.

When she was cast for her Academy Award winning role in La La Land, she was performing in Cabaret on Broadway.

With her win of an Academy Award for Best actress for La La Land, she became the 148th actress to receive such award.

Thanks to her win, her net worth grew considerably from the $8 million she had in 2014 to annual earnings of $16 million.

Among her assets is a Beverly Hill Mansion.
