How much is Jack Ma worth in 2026?

We put Ma at $20 billion, within a range of $15 billion to $25 billion. Two assets carry about 70 percent of it: a stake in Alibaba of under 5 percent and an indirect interest in Ant Group. Neither can be read off a current filing, so we say which parts are known and which are assumed. This one is a rough estimate: most of the money is assumed.

Public estimates disagree because the stake sizes are old. Ant has not listed and its last valuation we know of comes from a single 2023 buyback, and the Alibaba share price moves every day.

How Jack Ma built it

  • Sold into strength. He sold about $9.6 billion of Alibaba stock in 2020, taking his stake from 6.4 percent to 4.8 percent.
  • Bought back after the drop. In August 2026 he put more than HK$600 million into Alibaba shares after a record placement.
  • Co-held shares with a partner. In 2011 he and Joe Tsai put 400 million shares into a joint vehicle, as the 2026 annual report records.

How we got to $20 billion

Source Our estimate What it rests on
Alibaba shares $9.0 billion Assumption on a documented base. DealStreetAsia put his stake at 4.8 percent after the 2020 sale, and we assume about 3.75 percent today to allow for sales since. We also assume Alibaba is worth about $240 billion, an ADS price near $100 (we did not open a dated quote). 3.75 percent of that is $9.0 billion.
Ant Group interest $4.7 billion Our assumption throughout. The last Ant valuation we know of is about $78.5 billion, from a 2023 buyback (we could not re-open that report). We assume he holds an economic interest of 6 percent, because we found no current disclosure of it.
Cash from past share sales $4.8 billion DealStreetAsia reported that Ma sold about $9.6 billion of Alibaba stock in 2020, with his stake falling to 4.8 percent. We assume he kept half after tax, giving and spending.
Other investments $1.5 billion Assumption. We allow a round amount for other investments and assets, none with a published value.

The rows add to $20 billion. Our calculation: at the 4.8 percent he held after the 2020 sale, a $240 billion company would make his stake worth $11.5 billion. We use 3.75 percent, so the $9.0 billion Alibaba row is $2.5 billion lower, and that single guess is the biggest swing in the page. The row is also smaller than the $9.6 billion of cash he took out of the stock six years ago.

An August 2026 purchase at a discount

On 23 August 2026 Alibaba announced a record HK$80 billion share placement in Hong Kong. Caixin reported that Ma and other top executives then bought more than HK$800 million of the stock, with Ma’s share above HK$600 million, roughly $77 million at our conversion of HK$7.8 to the dollar. That is under 1 percent of our estimate, but it shows he is a buyer after the shares fell, not a seller.

What we could not document

We could not open a current filing that states how many Alibaba shares Ma holds, how large his Ant interest is, or what he has done with the cash from past sales. Those are the gaps, and the three biggest rows of the ledger sit in them. The documented facts are the 2020 sale and the August 2026 purchase.

What would move the figure

Alibaba’s ADS price is the biggest lever: each $10 move shifts the assumed stake by about $0.9 billion. A new Ant valuation, which would replace the 2023 buyback price, could add or remove several billion. Any new sale by Ma would turn shares into cash, and the 2020 sale shows how large such a sale can be.
