Born in Livingston, New Jersey, to Seryl Kushner and Charles Kushner, a real-estate developer, he grew up in a Modern Orthodox Jewish family.
Growing up, he attended and graduated from the Frisch School, a coed yeshiva high school.
Former school officials describe him as a less than stellar student, and a member of the debate, hockey, and basketball teams.
Thanks to his father, who paid $2.5 million to Harvard University along with smaller amounts to Princeton and Cornell, he got in to Harvard in 1999.
There he became a member of the Fly Club, as well as a supporter of Chabad house.
He purchased and sold real estate in Somerville, Massachusetts, as a vice president of a division of Kushner Companies.
After his father went to prison on charges of tax evasion, illegal campaign donations, and witness tampering, he took over the family’s business.
In 2007 he graduated from New York University with a dual JD/MBA degree. Then he went to work as an intern for Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau’s office.
He is responsible for growing Kushner Companies’ presence in the New York City real-estate market.

His company kept acquiring properties all over, including purchasing 50.1% of the Times Square Building from Africa Israel Investments Ltd.
Apart from his real-estate businesses, he has purchased the New York Observer for $10 million. He used money he gained during his college years.
Upon purchasing the newspaper he changed it into tabloid format. Ever since, he has increased the Observer’s online presence and expanded the Observer Media Group.
In April 2016, his newspaper became one of only a few newspapers to officially endorse US presidential candidate Donald Trump.
However, the paper ended the campaign period and chose not to back any presidential candidate at all.
Kushner stepped down from his newspaper role in January 2017 to pursue a role in President Donald Trump’s administration.
Now, the elder son of real-estate developer Charles Kushner serves as a senior White House advisor.
He married Trump’s daughter Ivanka and has three children with her.
