His fortune was built in two cheques that came a generation apart: an estimated $250 million settlement with Disney in 1999 and a sale of DreamWorks Animation to Comcast in 2016.

How much is Jeffrey Katzenberg worth in 2026?

We put Jeffrey Katzenberg at about $650 million. It is an estimate: he has not published a balance sheet and the two largest cheques are reported or estimated figures.

Public estimates tend to run higher because they count the headline price of DreamWorks Animation, $3.8 billion, as though it were his. He was one shareholder among many. Others miss the tax on both the settlement and the sale.

How Jeffrey Katzenberg built it

  • Fought for money owed. He sued Disney after leaving in 1994 and settled out of court in 1999 for an estimated 250 million dollars.
  • Took a studio public. DreamWorks Animation raised more than 812 million dollars in its 2004 IPO.
  • Kept backing new ventures. He raised 591.5 million dollars for WndrCo in 2017, then Quibi lost 1.35 billion dollars in seven months.

How we got to $650 million

Source Our estimate What it rests on
Disney settlement, 1999 $138 million He left Disney in October 1994 and sued over money he said he was owed. The case settled out of court for an estimated $250 million, as summarised on his Wikipedia page. We assume 45 percent went in tax and fees and keep $138 million.
DreamWorks Animation sold to Comcast, 2016 $310 million The deal was worth $3.8 billion. TheWrap reported, citing a filing, that he held about 2.1 million Class A and 7.8 million Class B shares, worth $408.3 million at the $41 deal price (9.9 million shares times $41 is $406 million). A $21.9 million figure in the same filing is a severance amount, not the sale payout. We use $408 million and assume 24 percent goes in tax, keeping $310 million.
Returns on those proceeds $154 million An assumption: $448 million (the two rows above) growing at a net 3 percent a year for ten years, after spending.
WndrCo net of Quibi $47 million An SEC filing reported by TheWrap in January 2017 showed WndrCo raising $591.5 million. Quibi lost $1.35 billion. We assume his own gains from fees and carry on other deals exceed his Quibi loss by about $47 million. This is a guess.
Total $649 million $138 + $310 + $154 + $47 million, rounded to $650 million in the headline.

The rows add to $649 million, which we round to $650 million. About two thirds, $448 million, comes from two reported cheques; the rest is growth and WndrCo, which we cannot document.

The cost of a day at Quibi

Our calculation: $1.35 billion divided by seven months is $193 million a month, or about $6.4 million a day. Quibi’s first raise of $1.65 billion was cut by $600 million when it returned money to investors after shutting in 2020. The company had announced itself in late 2018 with Meg Whitman.

Almost all of that was outside capital. Without a disclosed personal cheque we cannot subtract it, so the WndrCo row carries the uncertainty.

The two cheques

The 1999 settlement and the 2016 Comcast sale are the two big payouts behind the Katzenberg fortune. DreamWorks Animation had raised more than $812 million in its 2004 IPO; the live-action studio was sold to Viacom in December 2005.

The latest documented money event is a January 2025 donation: he and his wife gave $5 million to the Motion Picture and Television Fund for wildfire relief.

What would move the figure

Our biggest assumption is the 24 percent tax and the 3 percent growth. Every 10 points on the tax rate moves the headline by about $41 million. Returns on WndrCo’s holdings could move it up. Another large loss on a venture he backs personally is the other way.
