How much is Joe Gebbia Worth? Joe Gebbia Net Worth in 2026
Joe Gebbia’s net worth is estimated at $7.7 billion as of November 2026. Over two days in July 2026 the Airbnb co-founder sold about 2.1 million shares for $315.9 million, and that barely dented the pile: he still held about 30.2 million shares in late August. Roughly two-thirds of our figure is Airbnb stock he hasn’t sold, and the rest is what we think survives from the stock he has.

How much is Joe Gebbia worth in 2026?
Our figure is $7.7 billion, in a range of $6.5 billion to $9 billion. The share count is hard evidence from securities filings. The cash side is our estimate, because nobody publishes what a founder keeps after selling.
Public estimates disagree mainly for that reason. A shares-only count gives about $5 billion, and adding years of sale proceeds with little taken off for tax or giving lands far higher. Anything built on a 2025 share count is also out of date, since his Class B holding has fallen by more than 4 million shares since April 2026.
How Joe Gebbia built it
- Rented out air beds. In 2007 he and Brian Chesky quit their jobs and began renting air beds in their apartment.
- Sold on a fixed plan. His 2026 sales ran under a trading plan adopted on February 27, 2026.
- Gave shares away. He gave away 960,000 Airbnb shares in August 2026, after pledging more than half his wealth.

| Source | Our estimate | What it rests on |
|---|---|---|
| Airbnb shares still held | $5.16 billion | An August 2026 Form 4 lists 30,159,780 Class B shares across a trust and five LLCs, plus 2,953 Class A. We priced them at the November 2, 2026 close of $171.11. Options and unvested units are left out. |
| Stock sold since 2021, before tax | $4.63 billion | His holding fell by 39.2 million shares between the April 2021 proxy and August 2026. Assumption: one share in eight of those was given away, leaving 34.3 million sold at an average of $135, the midpoint of the $120 to $150 we use as his range. |
| Tax on those sales | minus $1.39 billion | Assumption: 30 percent of $4.63 billion, blending federal capital gains with some state tax in his San Francisco years. |
| Spending, startups and giving we can’t see | minus $0.81 billion | Assumption: a quarter of the $3.24 billion left after tax. He has pledged to give away more than half his wealth, so this could run higher. |
| Tesla, private stakes and homes | $0.11 billion | His 4,111 Tesla shares, the count reported in April 2025, are worth about $1.7 million at $403.82, its November 2, 2026 close. The rest is an assumption: we found no price for his San Antonio Spurs stake, Samara, Stark Bank or Vimcal, and allow about $110 million for those and his homes. |
| Total | $7.7 billion | Rows sum to $7.7 billion. The first row is documented, the others lean on stated assumptions. |
The founder who has already parted with more than half
The 2021 proxy gave Gebbia 69,362,965 Class B shares, counting options. The April 2026 proxy showed 34,569,980, and the late August filing adds up to 30,159,780. By our calculation, 39.2 million shares are gone, or 56.5 percent of what he held four months after the IPO. That 2021 count includes about 2.3 million options, which we treat as exercised, since the latest filing lists no Class B options.
At $171.11 those departed shares would be worth about $6.7 billion today. We think he received about $4.63 billion for the portion he sold, so patience would have paid, though on a stock that spent long stretches well below that price. Fortune counted more than $1.37 billion of sales in the year after he stepped back from his full-time role in July 2022, including 516,666 shares for $71.7 million on one day, about $139 each.
The selling runs on autopilot. A July 2026 filing says the sales came under a pre-set trading plan adopted on February 27, 2026, with prices clustered at $150 and up. The block on July 27 and 28 averaged $150.92. The stock closed $20.19 above that on November 2, which by our math is about $42 million he’d have had on those 2.1 million shares by waiting 14 weeks.
A 960,000 share gift with no name on it
On August 24, 2026, the same filing shows his trust converting 960,000 Class B shares and giving them away. The form doesn’t name the recipient. On November 2 prices that block is worth about $164 million, more than twice the $75 million in the three gifts we can document: $25 million for San Francisco homelessness charities in 2020, and $25 million to The Ocean Cleanup plus $25 million committed to Malala Fund over five years in 2023.
His smallest gift may be the most fun to price. In May 2022 he pledged 22 Airbnb shares to each of 890 graduates of his Georgia high school, worth about $2.1 million then. That is 19,580 shares, or about $3.35 million at today’s price.
The board seats pay almost nothing
Airbnb paid him $362,446 as a director in 2025, which is what his Class B stake moves if the stock rises about $0.01 a share. Tesla’s 2026 proxy says its directors gave up all equity and cash retainers for 2025, so that seat adds no pay at all. The Tesla money runs the other way: he bought about 4,000 shares for about $1 million in April 2025. He also became the US government’s first Chief Design Officer in August 2025, and we count nothing for that job.
What would move the number
Airbnb’s price, first. Each $10 on the stock changes the first ledger row by about $302 million. Further sales under the 2026 plan would swap shares for cash at a tax cost, and our figure takes no tax off the shares he still holds: at an assumed 24 percent, selling all of them would cost about $1.2 billion. Large gifts would cut it too, and a pledge to give away more than half suggests more are coming. His Class B shares convert to Class A automatically on transfer, or at the latest on the 20th anniversary of the IPO.
