Pavel Durov’s net worth is estimated at $8.3 billion as of November 2026. He says he owns all of Telegram, an app with more than a billion active users, and yet he told Lex Fridman’s podcast in 2025 that his bills get paid by bitcoin he bought in 2013 at about $700 a coin. Telegram itself, in his words, is “a money-losing operation for me personally.”

How much is Pavel Durov worth in 2026?
We put him at $8.3 billion, and the range around that number is wide because Telegram is private and no one has bought a share of it at a published price. Durov told the Financial Times in March 2024 that he holds 100 percent of the equity, a company profile notes, and Telegram publishes no shareholder list. So we credit him with all of it and value the business ourselves from the most recent figures we could open, which are for the first half of 2025.
How Pavel Durov built it
- Kept all the equity. He told the Financial Times in 2024 that he holds 100 percent of Telegram.
- Held bitcoin through a crash. He bought near $700 in 2013, saw it fall below $200 and did not sell.
- Paid for Telegram himself. He said in 2023 that he had spent hundreds of millions of dollars keeping the app running.

| Source | Our estimate | What it rests on |
|---|---|---|
| Telegram’s business | $11.4 billion | Our assumption of 10 times sales. Revenue was $870 million in the first half of 2025, unaudited, as the Financial Times reported. We remove $300 million of exclusivity deals tied to Toncoin, leaving $570 million, or $1.14 billion a year. |
| Telegram’s crypto holdings | $0.4 billion | Digital assets were $787 million at the end of June 2025, per the same report. Toncoin, since renamed Gram, has slid to $1.16 on 3 November 2026, so we assume about half is left. The size of the cut is our assumption. |
| Telegram’s bonds | Minus $1.7 billion | The $1.7 billion issue of May 2025, at 9 percent. We have no cash figure, so nothing is added for cash. |
| Discount for a private company | Minus $2 billion | Our assumption of 20 percent on the $10.1 billion above, because the shares have no market. The same 20 percent is what bondholders get on conversion. |
| Bitcoin | $0.15 billion | Our assumption of 2,000 coins left at $76,910 on 3 November 2026. Durov described buying a few thousand in 2013 and has spent from them. The count has never been disclosed. |
| Telegram bonds he bought | $0.07 billion | In 2023 he said he bought about a quarter of a roughly $270 million issue. A quarter is $67.5 million. We assume that money is still his, since the older notes have been repaid. |
| VK sale money | $0 | Fortune says $300 million from VKontakte went into launching Telegram, and in 2023 he said he had spent hundreds of millions keeping it running. We count it as gone. |
| Total | $8.3 billion | The rows add to $8.3 billion. Most of the weight sits on one multiple that we chose, so read this as a reasoned guess. |
The Toncoin deals that make up most of the profit
Telegram’s revenue story sounds simple: first profit in 2024, $540 million on $1.4 billion of revenue, and a target of $2 billion for 2025. The first half of 2025 looks different once you read the mix. Operating profit was nearly $400 million, but about $300 million of revenue came from exclusivity deals tied to Toncoin. By our calculation, if those deals carried little cost, they equal $300 million divided by $400 million, or 75 percent of the operating profit. Subscriptions brought in $223 million and ads $125 million.
The bottom line was worse. A Toncoin write-down turned that operating profit into a net loss of about $222 million for the half. That is why we value Telegram on sales outside those deals and not on the headline.
A couple of million dollars in 2013
Durov said on the podcast that he spent “a couple of millions” on bitcoin at about $700, near a local peak, then watched it fall below $200 and did not sell. We work out that $2 million at $700 buys 2,857 coins. At $76,910 those would be worth about $220 million, roughly 110 times the outlay. He has been living off them, so our ledger carries 2,000 coins and not the full count.
VKontakte was the earlier fortune, and it went into the next company. He sold his 12 percent stake in December 2013 and has lived in Dubai since 2017.
Why other estimates disagree
Public estimates for him have swung by more than a factor of two within a year, and the reason is the multiple. In 2025 bond talks, investors reportedly put Telegram above $30 billion, which we calculate as 15 times the $2 billion revenue target. Anyone using that number gets close to $29 billion for him after debt. Anyone who treats the Toncoin deals as temporary lands far lower. No figure rests on a real sale of shares.
What would move the number
A listing is the big one. Holders of the 2025 bonds can convert at a 20 percent discount if Telegram lists before 2030, so $1.7 billion of debt would become about $2.1 billion of stock at the offer price, by our math, and for the first time Durov would own less than all of it. Full-year 2025 accounts would also help. We couldn’t find any, and the half-year report dates from January 2026.
Russia is the other live risk. Nearly 96 million people logged in there in January 2026, Meduza reported, before access was restricted, and Durov said in April 2026 that 65 million still use it daily through VPNs. In March 2026 he also said the 2021 bonds had been repaid in full, which removes a large near-term bill.
