What Rafael Leao teaches (and what to take from it)

Know your value and ask for it with a plan

Leao’s 2023 Milan renewal came with a 175 million euro release clause that only worked in summer windows. The clause gave him bargaining power without a public fight. Before your next review or client renewal, write down what you bring that is hard to replace, and ask for the terms that match it.

Protect the engine

Leao said in May 2026 that he wanted a new challenge in another league after a difficult season. Your own output drops when you ignore a problem. Pick one recurring strain in your week, such as late nights or back-to-back meetings, and remove it for seven days.

Find a second outlet for your creativity

Beside football he makes music as WAY 45. A side project gives you identity beyond your main job, so a bad month in one does not flatten you. Block one hour this week for something that has no scoreboard.

Be willing to move when the role stops fitting

After a season of being shifted around the pitch and a public frustration in March 2026, he took a new league. Ask whether your current role still stretches you, and list one move, internal or external, that would.
