Renzo Rosso was born in Brugine in the Veneto region of northeastern Italy, to farming parents, and grew up in modest conditions. Seeing how hard farm life was, he wanted to do something different.
In 1970 he began studying industrial textile manufacturing at the Marconi Technical Institute in Padua. At 15 he made his first pair of low-waist bell-bottom jeans on his mother’s sewing machine, and sold or gave away his designs at school. He later studied economics at the University of Venice, paying his way as a mechanic and carpenter, before leaving in 1975 to join Moltex.
