Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, to James Chester Reynolds, a food wholesales, and Tammy, a retail salesperson, he is the youngest of four brothers.
In 1994 he graduated from Kitsilano Secondary School in Vancouver. Until dropping out, he went to Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
He started his career in 1991, in the Canadian-produced teen soap Hillside, distributed in the US by Nickelodeon as Fifteen.
Growing up he started alongside Melissa Joan Hart in the TV movie Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
Later, as an adult he had a role in the American TV series Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place. There he played medical student Michael Berg Bergen.
In the following period a lot more guest appearances and cameos followed, including the one in Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle as a nurse.

After portraying Wade Wilson / Weapon XI, without the name Deadpool, in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, he became heavily involved in the development of a Deadpool film.
Deadpool featured a reboot of the character, ignoring the events of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The film established a new backstory for the character, closer to the Marvel Comics source material.
Reynolds appeared in Buried, as well as portraying Hal Jordan in the superhero Green Lantern, released in 2011.
The film behaved poorly at box office, both financially and critically.
On the set of Green Lantern he met his future wife, actress Blake Lively, whom he married on September 9, 2012. The couple has two daughters together.
