The ?40 crore deal, then and now
The 2012 agreement with Rhiti Sports was three years. She ended it in 2013, and afaqs later described it as having fallen through. Badzine’s dollar figure works out at ?54 to the dollar. Our calculation at today’s ?94.77: ?40 crore is $4.22 million, 57 percent of the $7.4 million quoted then. That gap is the main reason old dollar figures overstate what an Indian athlete’s rupee earnings are worth now, even before tax.
Her next arrangement, with IOS Sports in 2015, is also often misread. One report says IOS would target around ?25 crore over two years, which is a sales goal. Another calls it a ?25 crore deal. We count the full amount as money earned, the generous reading, and at today’s rate it’s $2.64 million.
What a brand actually paid
The per-deal numbers are smaller than the totals suggest. A June 2015 report pegged a two-year Kellogg’s deal at close to ?1.5 crore, which made her the top female sports endorser in India, and the company declined to give details. That’s ?75 lakh a year, matching the rate afaqs reported, or about $79,000 a year at today’s exchange rate. To reach our ?85.5 crore she needed many such deals at once, and afaqs names 11 brands she has endorsed, from Yonex, Herbalife and Fortune Oil to Indian Overseas Bank.
Prize money is the smallest part of the picture. A strong half-year in 2016 brought $77,275, of which $56,250 came from the Australian Open. We calculate prize money at about 5 percent of her gross, which is ?5 crore out of ?95.5 crore.
After the last match
She hasn’t played a competitive match since the 2023 Singapore Open, and ETV Bharat reported on January 20, 2026 that she had confirmed her retirement on a podcast the day before. It’s the latest dated money event we can point to, since it ended prize income for good and likely shrinks endorsements, which is why we drop them to ?1 crore a year. We found no report of a new deal or fee in 2026, and no reliable report on a house or investments, so her savings are all modelled.
