| Source | Our estimate | What it rests on |
|---|---|---|
| Atlassian shares | $9.08 billion | An SEC filing reports 47,342,748 shares at 31 March 2026, held by Farquhar Investment Partnership No. 2. The filing gives him sole voting and dispositive power, so we credit all of them to him. At the 30 October 2026 close of $191.72 that is $9.08 billion, or 18.7 percent of the 253.14 million shares StockAnalysis lists. |
| Sale of the Elaine house | $0.09 billion | He sold the Point Piper house on 4 October 2024 for A$130 million, per Wikipedia. At the October 2026 average of about 0.70 US dollars to the Australian dollar, that is about $90 million. We assume the money is still in his hands. |
| Cash and Skip Capital investments | $0.5 billion | Assumption. An earlier filing shows 47,534,373 shares at 31 December 2025, so his count fell by 191,625 in three months. At $191.72 that is about $37 million a quarter, or about $590 million over four years at the same pace, before tax and spending. We use $500 million to cover what is left of that plus Skip Capital, whose reported holdings include Canva, Airwallex, Figma and 1Password at values that are not public. |
| Total | $9.67 billion | Rounded to $9.7 billion. |
About 94 percent of the total is the Atlassian row ($9.08 billion of $9.67 billion). If Atlassian fell back to its December 2022 market value of $32.88 billion, 18.7 percent of it would be about $6.1 billion, which sets the low end of our range. At the 52-week high of $229.96 the shares alone would be $10.9 billion, close to the top of it.
A share price that gave back $2.8 billion
StockAnalysis shows Atlassian’s market value at $63.38 billion at the end of 2024, $42.66 billion at the end of 2025 and $48.53 billion on 30 October 2026. By our calculation, 18.7 percent of the fall from $63.38 billion to $48.53 billion is about $2.8 billion, holding his percentage at today’s level. The recent moves are sharper. The price history shows closes of $220.12 on 28 October, $204.10 on 29 October and $191.72 on 30 October. On 47.34 million shares, that $28.40 drop took $1.34 billion in two sessions.
From a $10,000 card debt
Wikipedia says Atlassian was founded in 2002 and bootstrapped with a $10,000 credit card debt. Accel invested US$60 million in 2010, and the company listed on Nasdaq on 10 December 2015 at a market value of $4.37 billion. By our calculation, the stake is worth about 910,000 times the original $10,000 ($9.08 billion divided by $10,000).
A A$55 million gain, before the rebuild
He paid about A$75 million for the Point Piper house in 2017 and sold it for A$130 million on 4 October 2024. The gain over the purchase price is A$55 million. A 2020 report put a planned partial knock-down and rebuild at A$30 million, and if he spent all of that, the profit was closer to A$25 million before fees. He announced on 26 April 2024 that he would step down as joint CEO at the end of August and stay on as a special adviser. The proxy lists him as a director nominee for the 2026 annual meeting.
Why other estimates disagree
Most of the spread is the share price and the date. A figure from the end of 2024 uses a market value $14.85 billion higher than the 30 October one. Using the older 20 percent ownership figure instead of the filed share count adds about $0.6 billion at today’s price. Local rich lists also convert from Australian dollars at different rates.
What would move the number
Atlassian’s share price decides almost everything: each $10 is worth about $0.47 billion to him (47.34 million shares times $10). Share sales move value from the stake row into cash, less tax. A disclosed Skip Capital portfolio would replace our largest assumption.
