Sophie Kinsella’s net worth is estimated at $25 million as of November 2026, the value we put on what she left when she died on December 10, 2025, at 55. The biggest asset we can see for the woman who made overspending funny is a company with a plain UK filing: Madhen Media, reportedly valued at more than 12 million pounds on its last balance sheets. Her real name was Madeleine Wickham, and the company name looks like Madeleine and Henry run together, our guess.

How much is Sophie Kinsella worth in 2026?

Our figure is $25 million, in a range of $18 million to $40 million, converted at $1.34 to the pound using the rate shown on November 3, 2026. It’s a rough estimate, though better than most author figures: one rare piece of evidence is a company value, and both big rows rest on one secondary report. No probate figure turned up in anything we could open, and we take nothing off for inheritance tax because how the estate passes hasn’t been published.

Public estimates disagree for two plain reasons. Some appear to count the couple’s whole property portfolio as hers, and others seem to ignore the company altogether. Some also use a lower sales total, 45 million against 50 million.

How Sophie Kinsella built it

  • Wrote a first novel at 24. The Tennis Party came out under her real name before she invented Sophie Kinsella.
  • Ran the money through a company. A large part of her income came through Madhen Media, set up in December 2010.
  • Stayed with one publisher for decades. Transworld published all her adult novels across about 30 years.

How we got to $25 million

Source Our estimate What it rests on
Madhen Media Ltd $16.1 million blue News, relaying the Daily Mail, put it at over 12 million pounds on its last balance sheets, and said it generated a large part of her income. A balance sheet isn’t a sale price, and a report isn’t the filing itself. Companies House listed her with 75 percent or more, with Henry Wickham’s stake ceasing in November 2023. We credit all of it to her because no other controlling person is listed, which puts this row at the top of that band: at exactly 75 percent it would be about $12 million.
Half of the property portfolio $6.7 million The same report put property held with her husband at over 10 million pounds, or $13.4 million: a listed townhouse in the City of London, a Westminster apartment, a Dorset farmhouse and a property in Croydon. We credit her half, 5 million pounds, because it was held jointly.
Other assets $2 million Assumption: cash, investments and rights held outside the company. No figure has been published.
Total $25 million Rows add to $24.8 million, rounded.

24p a copy, still in the company

Divide 12 million pounds by 50 million copies and you get 24 pence a copy, about $0.32, by our calculation. That’s what the company’s balance sheet reportedly showed when that report ran. Madhen was only set up in 2010, so many of those copies predate it, which makes 24p a yardstick and no more. As a share of what we can see, Madhen is about 65 percent of the fortune ($16.1 million of $24.8 million), and her half of the property about 27 percent.

We also built a rough check from the other direction. 50 million copies at an assumed $0.90 is $45 million, and an assumed $2 million for two films makes $47 million. Take off 50 percent for UK tax and agents and $23.5 million remains. Assume living costs and investment returns roughly cancel, and you land about 5 percent below the ledger. Two separate routes, one result, and neither is proof.

Thirty years with one publisher

She was 24 when she wrote her first novel, The Tennis Party, under her real name, followed by six more as Madeleine Wickham. Then came a pen name and Becky Bloomwood. By her agents’ count she published 34 novels across adult, young adult and children’s lists, and Transworld published every adult novel for about 30 years. Her books sold in more than 60 countries and over 40 languages.

The money side was a family business in a literal sense. Henry Wickham, a schoolmaster who became a headmaster, also managed her business affairs. They had five children, and the report after her death said the fortune would pass to them, with no split given.

Hollywood did its part without moving the needle much. Confessions of a Shopaholic grossed $108,394,089 worldwide in 2009, and Can You Keep a Secret? followed in 2019. If our $2 million assumption for both films is close, the screen money is under 2 percent of the box office for the first film alone, and small against the books.

Three things would change this figure. Madhen Media’s accounts to December 31, 2025, were filed on June 17, 2026. We haven’t read their numbers and rely on the earlier value as reported. A published probate value would replace most of our assumptions in one line. And a new screen deal could raise what her rights are worth, which we haven’t valued separately: the books keep selling after her death, and we assume that income goes to her heirs.
