The 1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL-1’s engine was the L88 engine made entirely of aluminium, the factory stating that it can reach 430 horsepower, but it actually produced 560 horsepower.
The engine had a much better design that the L88, and it only weighted 500 pounds.
Out of the 69 cars produced, the first 20 were put on professional drag, the rest being available to the public. Because of its high price, the public didn’t really buy them, 12 of them being sent back to Chevrolet and refitted with a smaller engine so they would be able to sell.
