The 91-year-old billionaire, Eka Tjipta Widjaja, is the founder of the Sinar Mas Group, which was one of the largest conglomerates during the Indonesian New Order period.
The billionaire and his family’s Asia Pulp & Paper company recently announced it would stop cutting down natural forests, after having a bad reputation in deforestation.
Eka Tjipta Widjaja also owns Golden Agri-Resources, one of the world’s largest palm oil plantation companies.
However, the company has lost some of its value as commodity prices have weakened.
