The 9 most romantic hotels in Europe, ranked

We re-checked each hotel’s own website in October 2026 for opening status and details. Most hotels publish rates only through booking engines, so we do not quote nightly prices.

1. Masseria Torre Coccaro, Puglia, Italy

Rooms and villas sit among centuries-old olive groves, many with private pools, according to the hotel. Winter offers are listed for Christmas and New Year, so it operates beyond summer. Rates are shown only on its booking page.

2. Marqués de Riscal, Rioja, Spain

The Rioja hotel at the Marqués de Riscal winery was designed by Frank Gehry. We could not load the hotel’s own site, so check current rates and wine experiences directly.

3. Aman Canal Grande, Venice, Italy

Aman Venice occupies Palazzo Papadopoli, one of the city’s eight monumental palazzos on the Grand Canal, with Rococo art and interiors by Jean-Michel Gathy. Its own site offers suites, signature rooms and apartments, and lists a fourth night free in an extend-your-stay offer. Rates are in euros on the booking engine.

4. Perivolas, Santorini, Greece

Perivolas has run suites and villas on the Oia clifftop for years, and its site lists a separate private villa on Therasia. Rates and season dates are on its booking engine, so check before you plan. See our guide to the island’s best luxury restaurants.

5. Hotel Santa Caterina, Amalfi, Italy

A late 19th-century liberty-style hotel on the Amalfi Coast, with majolica-painted rooms. The hotel’s page footer showed 2025, so confirm 2026 season dates and rates through its booking page.

6. Yeatman, Porto, Portugal

The Yeatman’s rooms and suites have terraces or balconies over Porto, and its website carries a ‘Grand Hotel Champion 2026’ award badge. It has 10 room and suite types, from the Executive Room to the Presidential Suite Panoramic. Rates are shown on booking.

7. Gamirasu Cave Hotel, Cappadocia, Turkey

The hotel has welcomed guests since 1999, has 35 cave rooms and suites, and retains an 11th-century Orthodox church and the former monastery kitchen. Contact the hotel for rates.

8. The Xara Palace, Mdina, Malta

A converted 17th-century palazzo with 17 rooms and suites, the only hotel inside Mdina’s walls. Rates and Valentine’s packages are on its booking pages.

9. Nimb Hotel, Copenhagen, Denmark

Nimb has 38 rooms and suites in the Tivoli Gardens, in a Moorish-inspired building that opened as a hotel in 2008. Its site shows booking links but no prices.

No longer on the list: Château de Montvillargenne

Château de Montvillargenne near Paris is now listed as Château Jeanne & The Forest, a four-star hotel near Chantilly marketing itself for working stays. It no longer fits a romantic-escape list, so it has come off, and the list now has nine hotels.
