Born on February 26, 1973, the American former competition swimmer has won 12 medals, including 8 gold medals in the 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics.
Earning $1 million during her career, Jenny Thompson enjoyed great success and proved to be quite the competitor.
She was the 1993 and 1998 ‘USA Swimming Swimmer of the Year’ and ranked as the 62nd greatest female athlete of all time in a 1999 poll conducted by Sports Illustrated.
Also, in 1998, Swimming World Magazine named Thompson the ‘Female World Swimmer of the Year’ and the ‘Female American Swimmer of the Year’ in 1993, 1998 and 1999.
In 2000, she became the Women’s Sports Foundation’s ‘Athlete of the Year’.
