World’s Most Expensive Sushi

The world’s most expensive sushi is the 20-piece Kiwami Omakase at Sushi Kirimon in Osaka, priced at 350,000 yen, about $2,475, and certified by Guinness World Records in August 2023. It replaced a five-piece gold-and-diamond nigiri set from the Philippines that cost about $1,978 in 2010. Below that sit four set menus in New York and London that charge $550 to $950 a person. The fish behind it all has its own record: a bluefin tuna bought in Tokyo in January 2026 for 510 million yen.

1. Sushi Kirimon Kiwami Omakase: about $2,475

Sushi Kirimon in Osaka serves a 20-piece course for 350,000 yen, tax and service included. Guinness certified it as the world’s most expensive sushi in August 2023. The menu mixes white tilefish, baby gizzard shad, bluefin and other tuna cuts, abalone, tiger prawn, sea eel, two kinds of sea urchin, hairy crab, sei whale tail meat and beluga caviar. It ends with matsutake and shiitake mushrooms, black truffle and a sprinkle of gold leaf.

The restaurant says the tuna alone runs above 40,000 yen a kilogram, and the sea urchin and caviar are priced by the sheet and by the 50 grams. Because seafood prices move daily, the course price can change.

How we valued it: the price per person on the certified course, converted to dollars as stated by the record body in 2023. We have not found a newer record.

2. Araneta gold-leaf nigiri: about $1,978

In 2010 Filipino chef Angelito Araneta Jr. sold a five-piece nigiri set wrapped in 24-karat gold leaf and topped with African diamonds for 91,800 Philippine pesos. It held the Guinness record until the Osaka course took it in 2023.

Some write-ups describe a longer ingredient list with pearls and foie gras and a price of $4,000 or more. We went with the record body’s figure.

How we valued it: the price certified by the record body at the time, 91,800 pesos or about $1,978.

3. Masa, New York: reported $750 to $950

Masa at the Shops at Columbus Circle has one of the most expensive counters in the United States. The restaurant’s own site does not list a price, and reports differ: $750 for the regular omakase, up to $950 for the Hinoki counter seat, and a figure of $1,200 in one source. We use the range two sources agree on and leave the highest figure out.

How we valued it: reported menu prices before drinks and tax. We could not confirm a current price on the restaurant’s own site, so confirm when you book.

4. Sushi Kanesaka, London: £420

At 45 Park Lane, the omakase is listed at £420 per person, with a sake flight from £150 extra. Reviews describe 18 to 20 courses. A London food guide called it the city’s most expensive omakase in March 2025, and a July 2026 review still gave £420.

How we valued it: the published per-person price in a July 2026 review, converted by us at roughly $1.33 to the pound. Service is extra.

5. Sushi Noz, New York: reported $550

Sushi Noz seats 14 across two rooms, an Ash Room and a Hinoki counter, for an Edomae-style tasting menu: five or six small plates, 12 to 14 nigiri courses, miso soup, tamago and dessert. The restaurant does not publish the price on its site. Reservation listings put it at $550.

How we valued it: the reported per-person price on a reservation listing. Not confirmed on the restaurant’s own site.

The most expensive fish ever bought for sushi

On 5 January 2026 at Tokyo’s Toyosu market, a bluefin tuna of roughly 240 kilograms from Oma, in northern Japan, sold for 510 million yen, about $3.2 million. The buyer was Kimura Corp., which runs the Sushi Zanmai chain. It broke the company’s own 2019 record of about 334 million yen, or $2.1 million. Reports say the owner plans to serve it at regular menu prices of 398 to 598 yen a serving. A press estimate puts the cost per piece at 20,000 to 30,000 yen.

This is a fish, not a plate of sushi, so we list it apart from the ranking.

Records set in 2025 and 2026

The new record is the January 2026 tuna: 510 million yen against 334 million yen in 2019. We found no new Guinness record for a sushi course after the Osaka listing in August 2023, and London’s £420 price was still current in July 2026.

What drives these prices

  • Ingredients that sell by the gram. Beluga caviar, sea urchin by the sheet and bluefin cuts set the floor, and the floor moves with daily market prices.
  • Seats, not servings. Counters with six to fourteen seats, like Noz, charge for the chef’s attention.
  • The record effect. A certified record gives a restaurant a headline, and that is worth more than the margin on one course.
  • Fish as marketing. The tuna buyer pays millions and sells it at a few hundred yen a piece.
