4. Whitney Houston – Whitney Houston | 15 Million Copies
Yet another self-titled debut album reached our top, this time of American R&B and pop singer Whitney Houston.
The album was released on February 14, 1985 on Arista Records and at first it had a slow commercial response but in the summer of 1985, “Whitney Houston” began getting more popular.
In 1986, it topped the Billboard 200 chart for 14 weeks, generating three number-one singles: “Saving All My Love for You”, “How Will I Know” and “Greatest Love of All”.
The self-titled album “Whitney Houston” was one of those very rare cases that enjoyed global success by a new black female artist.
