What is Lovers Deep?
Lovers Deep is a specially adapted leisure submarine, offered by Oliver’s Travels as a private underwater hideaway for couples. Its interior is fitted to each customer’s specification, and glass-fronted areas let guests watch coral and fish pass while they eat dinner.

The price includes a private speedboat transfer, with a helicopter landing on a beach as an optional extra. A captain, a chef and a personal butler travel with you, but they stay in their own soundproofed quarters at the far end of the craft, so the guest bedroom stays private.
The launch menu was an aphrodisiac tasting menu with oysters, caviar and a chocolate fondant with pomegranate essence. Other extras included rose petals, champagne breakfast in bed and a two-person shower. The champagne on arrival and the menu were free for couples who booked as part of a 2014 honeymoon package, so do not assume they come with a standard booking.
Where does the submarine go?
There is no fixed route. The company said guests choose where it is moored, with examples such as a coral reef off St Lucia or a sunken battleship in the Red Sea. St Lucia is the usual starting point in Caribbean coverage.

At 175,000 pounds a night, Lovers Deep is closer to a publicity stunt than a hotel, and that is part of its appeal. If an underwater night is on your list, a permanent underwater suite at a resort will be far cheaper and easier to book.
