In the late 1700s, Ephraim Brasher was a goldsmith and silversmith in the New York City area.
The colonies resorted to minting their own coins ever since the United States Mint was not operational.
Some of the coins in cause were minted by private entrepreneurs like Brasher.
It is believed to be the most important coin in the world by luminaries as Henry Chapman and Q. David Bowers.
Brasher designed his New York Style Brasher doubloon in 1787 making it almost identical with the Lima doubloons and a very close those earlier Spanish coins from that time.
