Up next we have the Matsutake Mushrooms.
One of the most expensive and rarest foods in the world (find out the rest here), the Matsutake Mushrooms are surely not cheap.
With a spicy and meaty taste, the mushrooms cost around $90 for 500 if they are imported, but if they come straight from Japan they are no less than $2000 per kilogram.
These mushrooms were quite popular in the ’80s and ’90s, but due to environmental infestation, they became really rare. The mushrooms do not grow twice in the same spot, so just imagine the hassle in growing them.
I think I’ll stick to my normal mushrooms.
