The most expensive hammock we can verify is the Petiole, a self-supporting, two-person steel hammock sold by Hammacher Schlemmer and reported at $35,000. Two artisans in Sweden spend about four weeks making each one. Hammock prices do not work like auction records: there is no sales ladder, so this is a short price guide built from the seller’s own listings, with the Petiole as the clear top.
| Rank | Hammock or stand | Price (USD) | Seller |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Petiole Hammock | About $35,000 (reported) | Hammacher Schlemmer |
| 2 | Southern Cypress Wooden Hammock Stand | $999.95 (out of stock) | Hammacher Schlemmer |
| 3 | Luxury Cushioned Hammock | $399.95 (sold out) | Hammacher Schlemmer |
| 4 | Steel stand for the Luxury Cushioned Hammock | $299.95 | Hammacher Schlemmer |
1. The Petiole Hammock: about $35,000
The Petiole does not need trees. A 9 1/2 foot electropolished 304 stainless steel pole curves over in a semicircle and carries a hand-built steel frame. It holds up to a quarter ton and fits two people. Hammacher Schlemmer’s listing says it is made in Sweden by two artisans and takes four weeks to build one. It won a design award at the Maison & Objet show in Paris.
Delivery takes up to ten weeks, and the white glove option includes installation. The listing steers buyers to a phone line for details. That matters, because we could not open a live page that showed a current price. The $35,000 figure comes from earlier reports that credit Hammacher Schlemmer, so treat it as reported, and confirm availability before you plan around it.
How we valued it: reported retail price, not an auction or sale price. You can look at The Petiole Hammock at Hammacher Schlemmer.
The same seller’s other premium pieces
These are far cheaper and several are sold out or out of stock, so they work as a ladder for a sensible budget, not records. Prices are as shown on the seller’s pages.
2. Southern Cypress Wooden Hammock Stand: $999.95
A wooden stand for a standard hammock. The listing showed it out of stock when we checked.
3. Luxury Cushioned Hammock: $399.95
A padded hammock sold separately from its stand. The listing showed it sold out.
4. Steel stand for the Luxury Cushioned Hammock: $299.95
The matching steel stand, sold separately.
Records set in 2025 and 2026
We found no new record-price hammock in 2025 or 2026, and no auction results for hammocks at all. The Petiole price remains the highest we could document.
What drives these prices
- The stand is the cost. A hammock is cloth and rope. The Petiole’s price sits in the pole, the steel and the hours of hand work.
- Built to order. Four weeks of two people’s time puts a floor under the price.
- Design awards and a small-run maker. These let a seller price furniture like a sculpture.
- No competition at the top. Few brands sell a hammock above a few thousand dollars, so one listing can set the record by itself.
