2- 1855 Sweden 3 skilling error “The Treskilling Yellow” – $2.3 million
The stamp that was once the most expensive stamp in the world was a misprint. Hate to break it to you, but beauty and rarity is found on the weirdest misprints.
The stamp originally comes from Sweden. In 1855 was intended to be printed in a blue-green color, but instead of that color it received the yellowish orange of its 8-skilling counterpart.
However, it is unsure how many errors were made, but just one example has ever been found.
The stamp was once owned by Phillipp von Ferrary, and has been declared a forgery in the past and shares a colorful history equal to that of the 1c Magenta.
It last sold through auction house David Feldman for “at least $2.3m” at an auction in 2010.
