Most Profitable Superhero Movies Ever
Let’s take a look at the most profitable Superhero Movies Ever and see which one will take the crown!
Since superheroes first appeared in the comic-books people had a special connection with them. However, it wasn’t until George Lucas’ Star Wars that the genre began to enjoy a newfound popularity and the box office at that time exploded.
From there is all history. More and more superheroes movies appear on the cinema for our delight, because let’s be honest, who doesn’t like superheroes?
They are everything you wanted to be, they are the thing you become after you find the courage to fight for your beliefs. Take Kick-Ass example, even though he didn’t have superpowers like the comic-book superheroes, he still went out there and fought for people’s safety.
I believe that deep inside everyone is a superhero, if not super then is at least hero.
10. Man of Steel: $291,021,565
Storyline: “A young itinerant worker is forced to confront his secret extrastellar origin when Earth is invaded by members of his own race.”
Director Zack Snyder ( the director of new Batman vs Superman movie) is responsible for making this movie a success and one of the best superheroes movies ever made.
With stars like Henry Cavill as Superman and Amy Adams as Loise Lane, the movie was meant for success since the beginning.
Superman’s first apparition was in 1938 in the original comics and appeared on screen soon after 1942.
Since its release he has enjoyed almost 10 movie versions of varying quality. Which one was your favorite version?
9. Iron Man 2: $312,433,331
Storyline: “With the world now aware of his identity as Iron Man, Tony Stark must contend with both his declining health and a vengeful mad man with ties to his father’s legacy.”
Robert Downey Jr. was so good in the role of Iron Man that they had to make a sequel. I know what you going to say, that the movie wasn’t that good as the first, but made over $300 million.
It all happened because Robert Downey Jr. and his talent; all the Marvel movies that came after Iron Man are because RDJ did a great job.
Iron Man’s first appearance was in 1963, almost half a century before he appeared on the big screen.
Now is on 9th place as one of the most profitable superhero movies ever.
8. Iron Man: $318,412,101
Iron Man tells us the origin story of the playboy weapons manufacturer – Tony Stark and also tells us his adventures.
The movie is telling the detailed history of the character and in the same time is introducing us various other characters from the original comics.
The budget was high, estimated at $140 million but the movie was so good that it doubled its money grossing more than $300 million.
The director Jon Favreau chose Robert Downey Jr. because like Tony Stark “the best and worst moments of (his) life have been in the public eye.” He also felt that Downey Jr would be able to portray Stark as “a likeable asshole”.
7. Spiderman 3: $336,530,303
Many people of my generation believe that Tobey Maguire was the best Spiderman. They might be true.
This movie was the last movie to star Tobey as Spiderman.
The executives believed is time for a change and a reboot was the change needed. Tobey wasn’t chosen to play Spiderman in the new reboot, instead Andrew Garfield took his place.
Part 3 of the Spiderman wasn’t that successful as the first two movies, but Tobey as Spiderman bought Marvel over $60 million more than the first Amazing Spiderman.
Tobey’s portrayal of Spiderman put Spiderman 3 on the 7th place as one of the most profitable superhero movies ever.
6. Spiderman 2: $373,585,825
Storyline:”Peter Parker is beset with troubles in his failing personal life as he battles a brilliant scientist named Doctor Otto Octavius.”
This movie managed somehow to take home an Oscar for special effects used in creating Doctor Otto Octavius’s four robotic limbs, Spider-Man’s enemy.
In reality each of these robotic limbs are thirteen foot long, individually controlled, composed of 76 individual segments and were created for the film by special effects company Edge FX.
Spiderman 2 starring Tobey Maguire and directed by Sam Raimi is one of the highest-grossing superhero movies of all time.
5. Spiderman: $403,706,375
You know they say first movies are always the best. Is the same with this Spiderman. This was the first to bring the superhero to a wider audience.
The film managed to score $100 million in its first week and now is on 5th place on the most profitable superhero movies ever.
*There’s an interesting story concerning the several red Spider-Man suits which were created at a cost of around $100,000 each.
During filming several of the suits were stolen, which lead to Colombia Pictures offering $25k rewards for their return.
Did you steal their props?
4. Iron Man 3: $409,013,994
Storyline: “When Tony Stark’s world is torn apart by a formidable terrorist called the Mandarin, he starts an odyssey of rebuilding and retribution.”
My favorite movie of all three and I believe this movie had all: action, comedy and romance.
Part three of Iron Man made almost $100 million more than the second and was the first in the series to gross over $1 billion worldwide.
The success of The Avengers made Marvel and Disney to decide to up the budget from $140 million to $200 million in order to allow director Shane Black to make the best movie possible.
Do you think he succeed? It turned up to be a pretty good movie if you ask me.
3. The Dark Knight Rises: $448,139,099
There were some other Batman movies, but nothing this spectacular as the director Christopher Nolan managed to make.
The first Batman movie directed by Nolan was a big success so it was highly anticipated by both the movie studio executives and the public.
The cast brought more awesomeness to the project. Among regulars like Michael Caine, Christian Bale, and Morgan Freeman actors like Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy, and Marion Cotillard have joined.
Tom Hardy’s Bane portrayal was the top of the movie, making it one of the most profitable superhero movies ever.
When the film opened in 4 thousands cinemas across the US, it took a whopping $160,887,295 in its opening weekend.
2. The Dark Knight: $534,858,444
The stunning performance of Heath Ledger as the Joker, made this movie one of the best movies in the world, it was on the IMDB #1 only two days after its release and the actor was posthumously awarded an Oscar for his position as supporting actor.
With this movie the director Christopher Nolan made his name known into the movie making industry.
In its first week, the movie made more money than all of the profits from Batman Begins (the first movie from the trilogy).
This movie was so great that gained its place among the most profitable superhero movies ever.
1. The Avengers: $623,357,910
And the number one most profitable superhero movie of all time is The Avengers.
He had a gross of over $600 million, a real cash machine. Two years after its release it still sits at No. 3 of all time highest-grossing films, and is the first marvel film to take over $1 billion in ticket sales.
The team of superheroes gathered together to defeat one common enemy in order to protect our planet.
It was so well received to the public that a new Avengers movie is scheduled for next year – Avengers: Age Of Ultron.
It seems now the superheroes movies are a must-see, every time is a new movie coming-up to the big screen.
Which superhero movie you like the most?
