10Costa Verde, Quepos, Costa Rica
We begin our top 10 list of the most unusual hotels in the world with Costa Verde Resort, where a night can cost up to $452.
This lovely airplane hotel is located at the edge of the Manuel Antonio National Park.
Costa Verde is actually a 1965 vintage Boeing 727, furnished and hand carved, which transported in its former life globetrotters on South Africa Air and Avianca Airlines.
Now, it had been turned into a cool hotel perched on the edge of the forest. It features 2 bedroom suites with a balcony, a bathroom and a kitchen.
9Cappadocia Cave Resort and Spa, Cappadocia, Turkey
We continue with an unusual, yet luxury hotel, Cappadocia Cave Resort and Spa.
Located in Nevsehir, Turkey, the hotel is close to Pigeon Valley, Cross Golf, Roman Castle, Zemi Valley and Uchisar Castle.
The 4-star hotel features 79 guestrooms, each one with air conditioning, fireplaces and safes.
Among other features are included a full-service spa, an outdoor and indoor pool, Wi-Fi, restaurant, bar/lounge and a rooftop terrace.
The guestrooms are amazing. Rooms open to patios or balconies.

8ICEHOTEL, Jukkasjarvi, Sweden

It is made entirely out of ice, even the the mattresses, the chairs, the tables, the reception.
Covering 59.200 square feet, this unusual hotel, located in Jukkasjarvi, Sweden, features a restaurant and a bar, where you can enjoy a nice cold drink from glasses made, of course, of ice.
I’m sure you’re wondering ‘But what if the ice melts?’
Well, the IceHotel is built every year and every year, a team of designers comes to make its interior look exquisite. All the rooms have decorations and statues made of ice.
If you’re wondering about the price, a room here costs 280 euros per night, while a suite is up to 600 euros per night.
7Hang Nga Guesthouse, Dalat, Vietnam
Also known as the ‘Crazy House’, this guesthouse looks like a fairy tale house.
Its design resembles a giant tree, while inside you’ll find elements representing natural forms: spider webs, caves, mushrooms, and last but not least, animals, such as eagles and tigers.
Each animal is connected to a particular nationality.
For example, the tiger room is representing ‘the strength of the Chinese’, while the eagle room is ‘big and strong’, like Americans.
With 10 themed guest rooms, each one having an animal as its theme, this guesthouse was opened to the public view in 1990.
Fees for visits were VND 35.000 per visit, and if you wished to spend an entire night there, a room ranged from VND 290.000 to 630.000 per night for Vietnamese, and from $29 to $63 for foreigners.
6Corona Save the Beach Hotel, Rome, Italy
Corona Save the Beach Hotel is the world’s first garbage hotel.
This hotel was built with 12 tons of trash, gathered from several beaches in Europe, and features only 3 rooms and 2 bathrooms.
Located on the banks of the Tiber, in Rome, Italy, Corona Save the Beach Hotel, designed by artist HA Schult, is more of a project, as its name suggests.
HA Schult declared: ‘Despite the ugly truth behind its main construction material, ranging from cans and car parts to socks and soccer balls, the hotel’s first patron is anything but hard on the eyes.

Guess who had the honor to spend a night at Corona Save the Beach.
Danish supermodel Helena Christensen was the hotel’s inaugural guest when she spent a Friday night in one of the 3 rooms, and she noticed all the trash from the walls, some of them being ‘very personal objects’.
‘The objects make you really wonder what made a human being throw this away on a beach.’, Helena declared.
5The Beer Moth, Inverness-shire, UK

The fairy tale hotel features a design inspired from the 4 corners of the world.
Architect Dominique Noel, who is also the the owner, said : ‘ I wanted the hotel to be almost imaginary, with a youthful essence and work harmoniously with nature.
The hotel was created by people who have a strong interest in nature. It is built from completely natural materials and celebrates the simplicity of modern times.‘
‘La Balade des Gnomes’ means ‘The Walk of the Gnomes’, where each room offers a feeling like one of Tim Burton’s movies.
Each room features wooden toadstools, starry skies and crooked windows.
3Kumbuk Hotel, Buttala, Sri Lanka
With an unusual, yet unique and fancy design, Kumbuk River Hotel is one of the world’s most famous resorts thanks to its amazing Elephant Villa, shaped like an elephant.
The Elephant Villa houses 2 large bedrooms on the top floor, which are connected to a spacious lounge. Attached to this villa, you’ll find a bathroom with 2 toilets.

We choose this hotel as the world’s most unusual hotel, because, well … how would you feel sleeping 155 meters underground?
Plus, its design is so macabre, but fancy in some weird way.
Located in the historic Sala Silvermine, one of the world’s best preserved mine settings, this hotel can extract the dark side out of you.
Its rooms can be only accessed via a mine lift shaft, and there are no bathrooms there. Not to worry! There’s a toilet 50 meters from the mine suite, as well as a shower above ground.
Sofie Andersson, the hotel’s director of marketing, said : ‘People may think that a hotel suite in a mine will be cold and dark, but the mine suite is located in one of our warm halls where the temperature is 18 degrees.‘
