How much is Aliko Dangote worth in 2026?

We put Dangote’s net worth at about $48 billion, a rough estimate, because his holding company is private and the refinery has only just begun to be priced by outside investors. Two assets carry nearly all of it: a listed cement producer and a refinery that was selling shares to the public in September and October 2026. We use ?1,357 to the dollar, the official close on 27 October 2026, as reported by Within Nigeria.

How Aliko Dangote built it

  • Stuck with one heavy product. He built cement from 1998 and took over Benue Cement in 2000, then held about 86.8 percent through the growth.
  • Built what the country imported. Commissioned in 2023, the refinery began refining in 2024.
  • Opened to outside investors late. A 2026 share offer put about 3 percent of the refinery on sale while he kept control.

How we got to $48 billion

Source Our estimate What it rests on
Dangote Cement shares $13.2 billion Billionaires Africa reported that his holding company owned 86.65 percent of the cement company at the end of 2025. ThisDay reported a market value of ?20.62 trillion on 26 October 2026. His slice is ?17.9 trillion, or $13.2 billion at ?1,357. We credit the holding company’s shares to him alone; the filings we opened do not show other owners of that company.
Dangote Refinery stake $34.5 billion The prospectus, as Nairametrics reported it, puts his beneficial interest at 104.8 billion of 120.1 billion shares, 87.27 percent, before the offer. At the ?525 offer price those shares are ?55.0 trillion, or $40.6 billion. Assumption: we cut 15 percent because the shares were not yet trading, the public float is only about 2.5 percent, and we found no published offer result. That leaves $34.5 billion.
Sugar, NASCON, bank shares and other businesses $0 Wikipedia lists holdings in NASCON, Dangote Sugar and a bank but gives no percentages, and no value is disclosed for fertiliser, ports or property. We leave them out, so the figure is probably low.
Total $48 billion 13.2 + 34.5 + 0 = 47.7, rounded to $48 billion.

Our calculation on the refinery price: at the full offer price with no discount the total would be about $54 billion. With the refinery shares at 70 percent of the offer price it would be about $42 billion.

Our calculation on timing: the cement share price was ?609 at the start of 2026 and ?1,222.10 on 26 October, a gain of 100.67 percent according to ThisDay. That puts the company at roughly ?10.3 trillion in January against ?20.62 trillion now. His 86.65 percent of the ?10.3 trillion rise is about ?9.0 trillion, or $6.6 billion at today’s rate. The naira moved during the year too, so treat that as an approximation. It is the cement price alone, with no refinery in it.

The refinery bet

Dangote’s refinery near Lagos was commissioned in 2023, according to Wikipedia. Daba Finance says it reached 650,000 barrels a day in February 2026 and that an expansion to 1.4 million is planned.

The public offer opened on 14 September 2026 and was scheduled to close on 13 October. It put 4.1 billion new shares on sale at ?525 each, ?2.15 trillion in all, which is about $1.6 billion at today’s rate. Nairametrics reported that the prospectus shows his stake slipping only to 84.34 percent if the offer sells out, and that about 3.3 percent of the enlarged company is on offer. Priced at ?525, the whole company comes to about ?65 trillion by our arithmetic (124.2 billion shares after the offer). Pre-IPO analyst valuations were higher, between ?77.7 trillion and ?82.6 trillion, according to Nairametrics. We use the offer price because it is the only one investors were asked to pay.

How a Kano trader became the cement price

Wikipedia says Dangote’s group began in 1977 as a small commodities trader and that he founded Dangote Nigeria Limited in 1981. He went back to Nigeria to start his cement business in 1998, and the privatisation of Benue Cement in 2000 let him expand. The company’s value today is the result of staying with one heavy product for more than two decades while Nigeria built roads and houses.

Why other estimates disagree

Public estimates differ because the two big assets are priced on different days. The cement share price doubled in 2026, and the refinery only got a market-tested price in September. Figures written earlier in the year, or ones that count the refinery at an analyst valuation instead of the offer price, land far apart. Ours uses the 26 October cement price, the offer price with a 15 percent discount, and nothing for the smaller businesses.

What would move the number

The offer was scheduled to close on 13 October, and we found no published result. The first trading days will replace the offer-price estimate with a market price. A move of 10 percent in the refinery price shifts our figure by about $4 billion, and a 10 percent move in the cement price shifts it by about $1.3 billion. A weaker naira cuts his dollar wealth even when nothing in the business changes.
