How much is Auston Matthews Worth? Auston Matthews Net Worth in 2026
Auston Matthews’s net worth is estimated at $60 million as of November 2026. The Toronto captain’s $13.25 million cap hit is the number everyone quotes, yet his cash pay this season is about $11.08 million, a third below the $16.7 million he collected two seasons ago. Nearly all of his fortune so far is hockey pay, and in his biggest seasons almost all of it came as signing bonus.

How much is Auston Matthews worth in 2026?
We estimate about $60 million, in a range of $45 million to $75 million. The pay side is well documented: CapWages lists $92.6 million in career earnings and HockeyZone lists season totals that add up to $92.9 million through 2025-26. Tax, endorsements and spending are our assumptions, and we say so row by row.
Public estimates differ mostly because they treat career pay as savings, or count the full contract before it has been paid. Some also use the cap hit as if it were his pay in a given year, and the two have not matched in any season of this deal.
How Auston Matthews built it
- Took his pay early. 60 percent of his $53 million extension was paid in the first two of its four seasons.
- Chose a shorter contract. He signed for four years, which sets up a new contract and free agency in 2028.
- Took the bonus route. By our reading, about 95 percent of his $16.7 million season came as a signing bonus.

| Source | Our estimate | What it rests on |
|---|---|---|
| NHL pay through 2025-26 | $93 million | Season totals from three contracts: $2.8 million entry level, $58.2 million for 2019-24, $31.9 million so far on the current deal. This season’s pay is left out because it is still being paid. |
| Endorsements | $15 million | We assume $1.5 million a year over 10 seasons. His Prime deal of November 2023 and others carry no public amounts. |
| Tax and agent fees | minus $45 million | Assumed at 42 percent of the $108 million above, treating him as mainly a US taxpayer. His actual filings are private. |
| Spending | minus $15 million | Another $1.5 million a year for 10 seasons, also assumed. |
| Growth on savings | $12 million | About 25 percent on the remaining $48 million by assumption, or roughly 6 percent a year for four years. Most of the money came after 2019. |
| Total | $60 million | Rounded to match how much of this is assumed. |
Why the $13.25 million number misleads
The 2023 extension, announced as four years and $53 million, runs through 2027-28. A 2026-27 season preview still describes him as making $13.25 million this season. CapWages shows the cash on a different schedule: $16.7 million, $15.2 million, $11.08 million, $10.02 million.
By our calculation, $31.9 million of the $53 million, or 60 percent, was paid in the first two of the four years. He had the money early, which is worth more than the same sum spread evenly, because early money can be invested for longer.
The bonus structure that ends with this contract
Look at how the pay was labelled. The Hockey News reported a season of his deal as a $775,000 base salary and a $15,925,000 signing bonus. It labels that season 2025-26, but the $16.7 million total matches CapWages’ 2024-25 row, so that’s where we place it. That is 95 percent bonus by our math. His first big season under the 2019 deal shows the same pattern: CapWages splits 2019-20 into $15.2 million and $700,000. Its table labels the larger number as base, the reverse of that report, so reading it as bonus is our call.
That structure is now capped, and the same report framed the change as a blow to Canadian teams. The new collective agreement, effective September 15, 2026, limits bonuses to 60 percent of a contract’s total compensation. Applied to that $16.7 million season as an illustration, the bonus would top out at about $10 million, roughly $5.9 million less than he got. The rule applies across a whole contract, so his next deal can’t be built the way his last two were.
The next contract is the whole story
The largest number in his financial life hasn’t been signed yet. Counting this season, the deal has only $21.1 million left on its schedule, and at our 42 percent that leaves about $12 million after tax. He becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2028, and he took the short term on purpose, which sets up a new contract at age 30.
In February 2026, in the middle of a difficult season, The Hockey News relayed a report that he and the Leafs had reaffirmed their commitment to each other. Nothing was signed. He had played 16 games of 2026-27 with 24 points when CapWages last updated. A new contract would move our figure more than anything else on this page.
The endorsement row could also prove low. TSN reported his Prime deal on November 1, 2023, without a dollar figure, and no public source we opened prices any of his brand work.
