How much is Bill Ackman worth in 2026?
We estimate Bill Ackman’s net worth at about $8.2 billion, a low-confidence figure. Almost all of it is one number: his share of Pershing Square Inc., the management company, which began trading on the New York Stock Exchange at the end of April 2026. Its share price is public. His ownership share is not in any filing we could open, so we assume it. Public estimates differ because some use only the money in his funds, some predate the listing, and some guess at a different ownership share.
How Bill Ackman built it
- Went public twice. In April 2026 he listed a fund and the management company that runs it, raising about $5 billion.
- Bought after the dip. After the fund fell 18% on day one he bought about $40 million of the two stocks.
- Sold a slice early. A reported private 10% sale in 2024 put a $10.5 billion price on the firm before the listing.

| Source | Our estimate | What it rests on |
|---|---|---|
| Stake in Pershing Square Inc., the management company | $8.2 billion | a quote page shows 400 million shares outstanding and a close of $45.66 on 30 October 2026, a market value of $18.26 billion. Voting control is expected to sit with a vehicle held by Ackman, chief investment officer Ryan Israel and other executives, per Yahoo Finance. Assumption: Ackman and the entities he controls hold about 45 percent, a figure we saw in a data listing we could not open in full. That gives $8.2 billion. The 45 percent is our assumption, not a disclosed number. |
| Pershing Square USA shares bought after the listing | $0.02 billion | Quiver Quantitative reported that he bought 500,000 shares of the closed-end fund after its debut. At the $40.90 first-day close that is $20 million. We count it at cost and assume his 800,000 management-company shares from the same purchases are inside the stake above. |
| Cash, property and other investments | $0 | Nothing in the pages we opened sizes his outside assets, so we give no credit. This probably understates the total. |
| Total | $8.2 billion | 8.22 + 0.02 + 0 = 8.24, rounded to $8.2 billion. |
The first row carries almost all of it, which is why a different ownership share changes the answer by billions. At 35 percent the stake is $6.4 billion; at 55 percent it is $10.0 billion. We call the range $6 billion to $10 billion at today’s price.
The stock that doubled after the dip
Here is our calculation. The management company closed its first day at $24.20, according to CNBC. On 30 October it was $45.66, which is up 89 percent. At our assumed 45 percent of 400 million shares, his stake was worth about $4.4 billion on day one and about $8.2 billion now, a gain of about $3.8 billion in six months. Each point of ownership is worth $183 million at today’s price. A quote page shows a 52-week range of $22.01 to $60.40, so the price alone could move our figure from about $4.0 billion to about $10.9 billion.
April 2026: two listings and an 18% fall
Pershing Square filed to list on March 10, 2026 (CNBC), seeking $5 billion to $10 billion for the fund. Yahoo Finance said the offering was expected to raise about $5 billion, at the low end, including a $2.8 billion private placement. CNBC reported that the closed-end fund, Pershing Square USA, closed its first day at $40.90, down 18% from its $50 offer price, while the management company’s stock closed at $24.20. The fund carries a 2% annual management fee and no performance fee. Afterwards, Quiver Quantitative reported, Ackman bought 500,000 shares of the fund and 800,000 of the management company for roughly $40 million. At the first-day closing prices that is about $20.5 million plus $19.4 million, which fits.
Why other figures disagree
Some estimates were set before the listing, when the firm had no daily price. Others take a flat number for assets under management and treat it as his money, though most of it belongs to clients. We do not count client assets. Wikipedia says he started the firm in 2004 with $54 million from his personal funds and from Leucadia National.
What would move the figure
A filing that discloses his share of the management company would collapse our range. The share price is the other driver: it has swung between $22.01 and $60.40 in under a year.
