How much is Falguni Nayar worth in 2026?

We put the Nayar family’s wealth at about $5.5 billion. That is an estimate: Nykaa is listed, so the share price is public, but the promoter group (the founding family and its trusts) reports its holdings as one block and we have to assign it between the two spouses.

Other estimates disagree for two reasons. Some count only Falguni Nayar’s own trust and leave out her husband Sanjay’s, which roughly halves the number. Others use an older rupee rate, when the currency was stronger. We use roughly 95, the 30 October 2026 close.

How Falguni Nayar built it

  • Started a company at 49. She left Kotak Mahindra in 2012 after nearly two decades to found Nykaa.
  • Kept the family stake intact. The promoter group held 52.07 percent in September 2026, barely changed from 52.10 percent in late 2025.
  • Held through the swings. The promoter group still held 52.07 percent in September 2026, barely changed since listing year.

How we got to $5.5 billion

Source Our estimate What it rests on
Falguni Nayar Family Trust and direct holdings $2.3 billion Inc42 reported, from the pre-listing filing, that this trust held 22.04 percent of the company and that the whole promoter group held 53.5 percent. We assume it still holds the same share of the promoter block, which is about 21.4 percent of Nykaa today, or roughly Rs 21,700 crore.
Sanjay Nayar Family Trust $2.6 billion The same pre-listing filing, as reported by Inc42, gave this trust 25.38 percent. Scaled the same way it is about 24.7 percent of Nykaa, roughly Rs 25,000 crore. Counted because it is the same household.
Trusts for their children $0.6 billion The same filing showed trusts for their children at about 3.04 percent each, 6.08 percent in all. This is the softest row: scaled the same way it is about 5.9 percent of Nykaa, roughly Rs 6,000 crore.
Debt, tax and spending $0 No loans against the shares were found, and the gains are unrealised, so we deduct nothing. Cash taken out over the years is not disclosed and is not included.

The three rows add up to the whole promoter block: 52.07 percent of a company valued at about Rs 1.01 lakh crore on 2 November 2026 (Screener), which is about Rs 52,650 crore. At roughly Rs 95 to the dollar that is $5.5 billion. Our calculation, with the trust split as our assumption: if the two trusts now hold less than we assume, the total does not change, only who owns it. The range we would defend for the full family block is $5.0 billion to $6.0 billion, depending on the rupee and the share price.

What the rupee took

WION reported on listing day, 10 November 2021, that she, her husband and their twin children together owned half of Nykaa’s shares. Our calculation for today: the same Rs 52,650 crore that makes $5.5 billion at Rs 95 to the dollar would make $7.0 billion at an illustrative Rs 75, so about $1.5 billion, or 21 percent, of the family’s wealth is currency rather than business. The business did not shrink to cause that. The currency did.

Banker first, founder at 49

Nayar spent nearly two decades at the Kotak Mahindra group, becoming managing director of Kotak Mahindra Capital in 2005, before starting Nykaa in April 2012 with $2 million of her own money, according to Wikipedia. Her husband Sanjay Nayar is CEO of the private equity firm KKR in India.

The company’s share price was about Rs 351 on 2 November 2026 (Trendlyne, which flagged a new 52-week high that day). In the September 2026 quarter the promoter group held 52.07 percent, according to Upstox shareholding data, down from 52.10 percent at the end of 2025, a drift of three hundredths of a percentage point in nine months.

What would move the figure

A one percent move in Nykaa’s share price changes the family block by about $55 million. The rupee matters as much: every 5 rupees of fall against the dollar takes roughly $280 million off the dollar figure. Any sale or pledge by the promoter group would be disclosed to the exchange and would change our rows.
