How much is Henry Kravis worth in 2026?
We put Kravis at about $9.8 billion. The KKR shares are the solid part: 81 million shares at the November 2, 2026 close of $98.01 come to $7.94 billion. The other $1.89 billion, net of gifts, is built on assumptions we spell out in the table, so treat it as an estimate.
Public estimates disagree for plain reasons: some use a stale KKR price, some count shares meant for charity, and few take out what he has already given away.
How Henry Kravis built it
- Bet $10,000 on his own firm. He put $10,000 into KKR in 1976, and that stake became the bulk of his wealth.
- Kept most wealth in one stock. About 80 percent of our $9.8 billion figure is KKR stock, and every $1 move shifts it by $81 million.
- Gave large sums away while working. He pledged $100 million to Columbia Business School and gave $105 million to Loomis Chaffee.

| Source | Our estimate | What it rests on |
|---|---|---|
| KKR common stock | $7.94 billion | 81,030,618 shares times $98.01. KKR’s 2026 preliminary proxy lists him at 81,180,618 shares on February 3, 2026. We take out 150,000 held by a charitable foundation and keep 15,227 held by his wife and 1,549,369 in a limited partnership he directs. One filing record shows 78,466,022 after a November 2025 gift. It looks like a single line of his holdings, so we use the proxy. |
| Dividends and carry since the 2010 listing, after tax | $820 million | Assumption. 16 years at $63 million in dividends (81 million shares times today’s $0.78) plus an assumed $40 million of carried interest is about $1.65 billion. We keep half after tax. Earlier dividends were likely lower, so this could run high. |
| June 2025 share sale, after tax | $115 million | Filed sale of $153.76 million, less an assumed 25 percent tax. |
| Partnership money before the listing | $1 billion | Assumption, and the softest row here. No filing shows what 34 years of pre-listing fees and carry paid him. We assume $500 million by 2010, doubled once since. |
| Homes and art | $300 million | Assumption. Five homes (New York, Palm Beach, Southampton, Paris, Sharon) at an average $40 million, plus $100 million of art. We could not open a property record or auction price. |
| Gifts already made | minus $345 million | $100 million and $40 million to Memorial Sloan Kettering, $100 million pledged to Columbia Business School, $105 million to Loomis Chaffee. Some of this came through his foundation. |
| Total | $9.8 billion | The rows sum to $9.83 billion, rounded. |
$10,000 in 1976, $7.94 billion now
When KKR started in 1976, Jerome Kohlberg put in $100,000, and Kravis and his cousin George Roberts each added $10,000. By our calculation, $7.94 billion divided by $10,000 is 794,000 times the original check. That flatters the math, because it ignores everything he put back in over the next five decades, but the direction is right: nearly all of this fortune is the firm.
The firm’s most famous deal did not supply it. The 1988 RJR Nabisco buyout cost $31.4 billion, then the highest price paid for a commercial enterprise, and KKR sold its remaining holdings in 1995 at an overall loss.
KKR began trading on the NYSE on July 15, 2010, which is what turned a partnership stake into a number anyone can check each afternoon. Kravis and Roberts gave up the co-CEO jobs in October 2021 and became co-executive chairmen.
A billion dollars in nine weeks
Every $1 move in KKR stock changes his stake by $81 million. The stock’s intraday high on August 28, 2026 was $111.64. Against the $98.01 close on November 2, the gap is $13.63 a share, or about $1.1 billion on 81 million shares, by our calculation.
He has also been a better seller than this autumn’s price suggests. The June 2025 sale of 1,281,394 shares brought in $153.76 million, about $120 a share. The same shares at $98.01 would fetch $125.6 million, so we work out that the timing was worth about $28 million before tax.
The filing that looks like his money and isn’t
Kravis’s name appears on a stream of Form 4 filings that have nothing to do with his KKR shares. An SEC filing dated October 2, 2026 lists 9,930,179 shares of KKR Real Estate Select Trust at $22.86, about $227 million by our math. Those shares sit with a KKR subsidiary, he is named because of his role at the top of the ownership chain, and the filing disclaims beneficial ownership beyond his financial interest.
Another filing shows 1,933,109 shares of the same trust handed back for no payment on September 16, 2026, under a support agreement with that fund. We count neither in the total, since KKR’s value already sits inside the stock price.
Giving is the other drag on the headline. The Chronicle of Philanthropy reported a $100 million gift to Loomis Chaffee, his old prep school, plus a $5 million pledge for scholars, in 2024. The 350,000 KKR shares he gave away in November 2025 would be worth about $34 million at the current price.
What would move the figure
The next date is close: KKR’s third-quarter results are listed for November 9, 2026. A $10 swing in the stock after that report would move our total by $810 million.
