Hugh Laurie is an English actor, singer, musician, comedian, director and author, and his current net worth is $40 million.
Born in Oxford, England, his father won an Olympic gold medal in rowing at the 1948 London Games. He grew up here and attended the Dragon School, private school Eton Collage and Selwyn College, Cambridge, like his father.
Although he specialised in social anthropology, he studied for a degree in archaeology and anthropology.
Like his father, he rowed in school and university and won the British national title in 1977. He trained up to eight hours a day because he wanted to become an Olympic-standard rower.
After a bout of glandular fever, he abandoned rowing and joined the famous actor producing university drama club Cambridge Footlights. Here, he met Emma Thompson, had a relationship with her and met his comedy partner, Stephen Fry.
