Gary Oldman is an English actor, filmmaker, musician, and author, and his current net worth is $45 million.
Born in New Cross, London, he is the son of Leonard Bertram Oldman, a former sailor, and Katheleen Cheriton.
Growing up, he attended West Greenwich School in Deptford but left school at 16 to work in a sports shop.
As a child, he used to be a pianist and later a singer, but gave it all up in order to pursue an acting career. The reason why he became an actor, is seeing Malcolm McDowell’s performance in the 1971 film, The Raging Moon.
He attended the Young People’s Theatre in Greenwich while working various jobs like a porter in an operating theatre.
Later on, he won a scholarship to attend the Rose Bruford College in Sidcup, Southeast London, from which he received a BA in acting.
After he finished school, he became the first in his class to receive professional work. Before attending the Rose Bruford applied without a success to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

He made his professional stage debut alongside Michael Simkins in Dick Whittington and His Cat, at York’s Theatre Royal.

The latter proved to be a major breakthrough for him because the artistic director of the Royal Court Theatre had seen his performance. He offered Oldman the lead role of Bond’s The Pope’s Wedding.
