How much is Josh Richards worth in 2026?
We put him at $7 million, in a range of $4 million to $12 million. This one is a rough estimate: little of the money is documented. Two earnings figures are on record, for the year to June 2020 and for 2021. Nothing has been published about his income since, or about what his company stakes are worth, so the ledger below relies on assumptions and says where.
How Josh Richards built it
- Turned followers into sponsor deals. He earned an estimated $5 million in 2021 from sponsorships and business ventures.
- Took a drink brand to Walmart. Ani Energy, launched in 2020, reached 400 Walmart stores in a deal announced in August 2021.
- Moved from creator to producer. He went on to co-found CrossCheck Studios in partnership with Mark Wahlberg's Unrealistic Ideas.

| Source | Our estimate | What it rests on |
|---|---|---|
| Published earnings to June 2020 and for 2021 | $3.6 million | Forbes figures of $1.5 million and $5 million, or $6.5 million total. We assume he kept 55 percent after tax and agent or management fees. |
| Creator income, 2022 to 2026 | $4.1 million | Assumption: $1.5 million a year for 5 years, the same as his first published figure and well below 2021, on the view that sponsors and the podcast held up but the TikTok peak did not. Same 55 percent kept. |
| Stakes in Ani, CrossCheck and others | $1 million | Assumption. No valuation for any of them is public. A deal database puts Ani’s total funding at $500,000, which argues against a large number here. |
| Living costs | minus $1.5 million | Assumption: $250,000 a year for the 6 years from 2021 through 2026. |
| Total | About $7 million | The rows sum to $7.2 million, rounded down to one figure because the money is thinly documented. |
One year did most of the published work
Forbes estimated in January 2022 that Richards earned about $5 million in 2021 from sponsorships and business ventures, enough for fourth place among TikTok earners. Its 2020 TikTok list had him at $1.5 million for the year to June 2020. Add them and you get $6.5 million, and by our math 2021 alone is 77 percent of it ($5 million divided by $6.5 million). The six months between those two periods are not covered by either, and we leave them out.
Then apply the costs a teenage creator actually pays. If he kept 55 percent, that $6.5 million became about $3.6 million in the bank. The keeping rate is our assumption, not a disclosed one.
The Walmart deal, and how much it could have paid
Ani Energy, co-founded with Bryce Hall in 2020, started online and went wide when Richards announced a 400-store Walmart deal in August 2021, carrying Lemon Lime and Black Cherry at 75 mg of caffeine a can. He said Walmart had shown a little bit of FOMO after early distributors sold out. Good story, thin evidence of profit. We found no sales figures, and a company database lists just $500,000 in funding, with the last round in November 2022. We give the brand little value.
Other people’s money
The biggest number attached to his name is not his. His 2025 conference biography describes Animal Capital as a $15 million venture fund for Gen Z startups. A fund of that size belongs mainly to its backers, and his share of any gains is undisclosed. Counting it as personal wealth would more than triple his figure at a stroke.
The same biography lists CrossCheck Studios, co-founded in partnership with Mark Wahlberg’s Unrealistic Ideas, plus more than 42 million followers across platforms. Those followers are the asset behind the $1.5 million a year we assume, and that assumption rests on audience size because no contract has been published.
BFFs: the income source we can see least clearly
He launched BFFs with Barstool’s Dave Portnoy in October 2020. Portnoy left, with the first episode without him airing January 8, 2025, and Richards continued with Brianna Chickenfry. Records of the show’s status are messy: one reference page lists a November 20, 2025 date and files it under 2025 podcast endings and former Barstool shows without explaining why, while a podcast directory still lists it as a Barstool comedy podcast. A creator-stats page showed about 2.4 million YouTube followers for the show on October 3, 2026. No pay figure is public.
Why other estimates disagree
Public estimates differ mostly on whether they treat gross earnings as savings and whether they count ventures at launch-day hype. They also tend to take the 2021 peak as a run rate. We don’t, since there is no published income figure after that year.
What would move the figure
A sale or new deal for BFFs, a sale of CrossCheck, or a good exit from an Animal Capital investment could each change this quickly. So could a disclosed podcast contract, which would replace our biggest assumption with a fact.
