How much is Justin Kan worth in 2026?
This one is a rough estimate: little of the money is documented. The deal prices are on the record: Amazon bought Twitch for $970 million in August 2014, and Autodesk bought Socialcam for $60 million in July 2012 (Wikipedia). What is not on the record is how much of either he owned, so we assume his shares.
Public estimates vary widely, partly because some credit him with the full headline price of a four-founder company. The latest dated item is Stash, the game-commerce company, which started life as the NFT marketplace Fractal after a $35 million seed round in April 2022; we found no 2026 sale or round.
How Justin Kan built it
- Sold a gaming platform. Twitch, spun out of Justin.tv, was bought by Amazon for $970 million in 2014.
- Sold an app for cash. Autodesk bought Socialcam for $60 million in July 2012.
- Kept starting new companies. He launched Atrium in 2017 and Fractal, later Stash, in 2022.

| Source | Our estimate | What it rests on |
|---|---|---|
| Twitch sale, 2014 | about $50 million | We assume he held about 8 percent, which is $78 million of the $970 million price, and that tax and deal costs took about a third. |
| Socialcam sale, 2012 | about $10 million | We assume a 25 percent stake in the $60 million price, $15 million, after tax. |
| Angel and early-stage investments | about $10 million | He became a Y Combinator partner in March 2014. No portfolio values are public, so this row is a placeholder. |
| Spent on later companies | minus $15 million | Atrium raised $75.5 million from investors, but we assume he put in some of his own money across Atrium, The Drop and Fractal. An assumption. |
| Total | $55 million | Mostly assumptions. Range $25 million to $100 million. |
Our calculation: if four founders split Twitch evenly, a quarter of $970 million would be $242.5 million, so our 8 percent assumption sits at about a third of an equal split ($78 million divided by $242.5 million). Early investors and employees mean founders rarely split evenly. At 4 percent our Twitch row would be about $25 million, and at 12 percent about $75 million.
Four founders, one price
According to Wikipedia, Justin.tv was co-founded in 2007 with Emmett Shear, Michael Seibel and Kyle Vogt, and began as a live feed of Kan’s life. It shut down on August 5, 2014, the month Amazon bought the Twitch gaming spin-off. One company sold for nearly a billion dollars and the other, the one that carried his name, was closed.
The expensive follow-ups
Kan’s next company, Atrium, launched in 2017 as a law firm built on software. It raised $10.5 million in a first round and $65 million in a 2018 round led by Andreessen Horowitz, then closed in March 2020 with just over 100 staff laid off (TechCrunch, which put total funding at $75.5 million). Fractal, the NFT marketplace, raised $35 million in April 2022 and was renamed Stash in 2024. Kan said some capital would be returned to investors after the wind-down. We assume Stash is still early, so we add nothing for either company.
