How much is Ken Fisher worth in 2026?
Our figure is $12.5 billion, in a range of $9 billion to $18 billion. About three quarters of it is a private company stake whose exact size has never been published, so the number is an estimate.
Public estimates have moved a long way since the deal put a price on the firm. They can disagree for three real reasons: assuming he owns every share the investors didn’t buy, holding the 2024 price flat while client assets climbed, and skipping tax on the $3 billion sale.
How Ken Fisher built it
- Started with $250 in 1979. He founded the firm with $250, and it was priced at $12.75 billion in 2024.
- Wrote for 33 years. His Portfolio Strategy column ran in Forbes from 1984 to 2017, alongside eleven investing books.
- Sold a minority, kept control. The $3 billion sale left him with a majority of beneficial ownership and over 70 percent of votes.

| Source | Our estimate | What it rests on |
|---|---|---|
| His stake in Fisher Investments | $9.2 billion | Assumption: 60 percent of a firm worth about $15.3 billion. The $12.75 billion price dates from June 2024, on $275 billion in client assets. Assets reached $386 billion by the end of 2025, up 40 percent, and we credit half of that rise. |
| Cash from the 2025 share sale | $2.3 billion | He sold personal holdings to Advent and a unit of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority for $3 billion, completed in January 2025. Assumption: all of it went to him and 23.8 percent federal tax applied, with no state tax. |
| Earlier savings and investments | $1 billion | Assumption: his share of profit averaged $100 million a year for 20 years, and half survived tax and spending. |
| Total | $12.5 billion | The firm price and sale size are documented. His percentage isn’t. |
Solving for a percentage nobody publishes
The closing announcement gives two clues. Fisher keeps “a majority of beneficial ownership” and over 70 percent of the votes, and the investors vote in proportion to what they own. Here is our calculation: $3 billion on $12.75 billion is 23.5 percent, which leaves 76.5 percent for Fisher, his family and employees. His slice therefore sits somewhere above 50 percent and below 76.5 percent.
We use 60 percent because prior ownership was held by family as well as employees, and because the deal was part of estate planning, which can move shares out of a founder’s own name. Each percentage point is worth about $153 million at our firm value. At the 50 percent floor the total falls to about $11 billion. At 76.5 percent it rises to about $15 billion. No other input on this page matters as much.
What a $12.75 billion price implied
The firm doesn’t report revenue or profit. A banker told WealthManagement.com that a value of $12 billion to $14 billion would require 20 times EBITDA, high but not out of bounds. Our math on that: $12.75 billion at 20 times implies about $637.5 million in annual operating profit, or about 0.23 percent of the $275 billion it managed then.
That profit comes from a retail machine more than a star fund. The firm targets clients with $500,000 or more to invest and in January 2025 had more than 130,000 US private clients and 200 large institutions, and it moved its headquarters from Washington State to Plano, Texas, in 2023. Damian Ornani has been chief executive since 2016. Fisher is executive chairman and co-chief investment officer.
A 33-year column and an estate plan
His own explanation of the sale was blunt. The deal was aimed, he said, at estate tax and planning “should anything untoward happen to me.” A founder holding a concentrated private stake can’t easily pay an estate bill in shares nobody can trade, and a $3 billion cash pile fixes that. It also means that some of what we credit to him may sit in family structures we can’t see.
The public profile came first. His Portfolio Strategy column ran in Forbes from 1984 to 2017, and he has written eleven investing books, the latest dated work being a third edition of The Only Three Questions That Still Count in November 2025. Documented gifts are small against the fortune: $3.5 million to Humboldt State in 2006 and $7.5 million with his wife to Johns Hopkins in 2012, or $11 million in those two.
Markets are what would move this most, since the firm’s value tracks client assets. One listing, citing an April 2026 review, puts assets above $441 billion, a figure we couldn’t confirm from a filing. Using it the same way would add about $770 million to his stake. The closing release says no further investment transaction is contemplated, so a new price is unlikely soon. A published ownership table would do more than either.
