Kendrick Lamar is an American rapper and songwriter and his current net worth is $40 million.
Born and raised in Compton, California by a couple from Chicago. His mother gave him his first name in honor of Eddie Kendricks, an American singer-songwriter and the founder of The Temptations.
He witnessed the filming of California Love by Tupac Shakur and Dr. Dre at the age of eight which inspired him.
Kendrick was a straight A student at Centennial High School in Compton.
At 16 he took on the stage name of K-Dot and released his first full length mixtape, which led him to signing a contract with Top Dawn Entertainment, a new indie record label at the time from California. Two years later he released a 26 track mixtape titled Training Day.

He rose in popularity when he rapped a verse live on a Charles Hamilton show.
Upon releasing The Kendrick Lamar ep in 2009 he dropped his stage name and in the same year formed with Jay Rock, Ab-Soul and Schoolboy Q a hip hop group called Black Hippy.
After seeing the music video to Ignorance Is Bliss, a track in which Kendrick highlights gangsta rap and street crime, Dr. Dre reached out to work with him. This, and getting a shout out in Complex in 2010 put him into the spotlight.

Fresh off his success with his project Section.80 and multiple collaborations with artists such as RZA and Drake, Kendrick released good kid, m.A.A.d city, surrounded by controversies. In the same year he ranked in Complex’s Best 50 Songs of 2012 list on number two.
He also opened on Drake’s tour alongside A$AP Rocky and 2 Chainz.

He signed a deal with Interscope Records and Aftermath Entertainment to release his album joint with Top Dawg. His single Swimming Pools (Drank) peaked at number 17 on Billboard Hot 100.
Kendrick worked again with Drake on Poetic Justice and performed it live on Late Show with David Letterman, pushing the album to reach his first platinum.
