Louis C.K. is an American comedian, actor, writer, producer, director, and editor and his current net worth is $80 million.

Born in Washington, D.C. as the son of Mary Louise, a software engineer, and Luis Székely, an economist, his family moved to his father’s home country, Mexico.

Growing up in Mexico his first language was Spanish and not until the family moved back to U.S. that he learned English.

At seven years old his family left Mexico and settled in Boston. After they moved to Boston, he expressed his wish to become a writer and comedian.

Three years later his parents divorced and his mother had to raise C.K. and his three sisters all by herself.

After work his mother would come home and watch “bad” TV shows, which inspired him to work on television.

As a teenager he attended and later graduated from Newton North High School, alongside future Friends star, Matt LeBlanc.

Upon graduating he started working as an auto mechanic and at a public access TV cable station in Boston.

Working in public access TV enabled him with the tools and technical knowledge he needed to make his short films and later TV shows.

He made his first attempt at stand-up in 1985 during an open mic night at a comedy club in Massachusetts.

For his five minutes on stage, he had material only for two minutes. After the experience he didn’t perform for again for two years.

How Louis C.K. did become famous?

He achieved success performing alongside acts such as Denis Leary and Lenny Clarke.

Later he moved up to paid gigs, opening for Jerry Seinfeld and hosting comedy clubs, until he moved to Manhattan.

Since the beginning he performed his act on many televised programs, such as Evening at the Improv and Star Search.

He even auditioned for SNL in 1993, but without success. Few years after HBO released his first half-hour comedy special.

Throughout his career he has also written for several comedy shows in the 1990s and early 2000s for comedians such as David Letterman, Conan O’Brian, and Chris Rock.

During the same time he also directed surreal short films as well as directing two features, Tomorrow Night and Pootie Tang, prior his appearance in the short-lived HBO TV sitcom Lucky Louie in 2006.

How does Louis C.K. make his money?

Today,  the acclaimed semi-autobiographical comedy-drama series he created, starts in, writes, directs and serves as its executive producer, started airing in 2010 on FX.

He also had supporting acting roles in films such as The Invention of Lying, American Hustle, Blue Jasmine, and Trumbo.

In 2001 he released his first comedy album, Live in Houston, directly through his website. This allowed him to become one of the first performers to offer direct-to-fan sales of tickets to his stand-up shows.

Throughout his career he has released nine comedy albums, and won several awards such as a Peabody Award and six Primetime Emmy Awards.
