| Source | Our estimate | What it rests on |
|---|---|---|
| Atlassian shares | $9.08 billion | Documented but moving. An SEC filing reports 47,342,748 shares at March 31, 2026, held by a trustee of the Cannon-Brookes Head Trust, with sole voting and dispositive power given to him, so we credit all of them to him. At the October 30, 2026 close of $191.72 that is $9.08 billion, or 18.7 percent of 253.14 million shares. |
| Grok Ventures and other investments | $0.5 billion | Assumption. Grok Ventures is his family office, set up in 2016. Its holdings, including AGL Energy shares and Sun Cable, are not published. An earlier filing shows 47,534,373 shares at December 31, 2025, a fall of 191,625 in three months. At $191.72 that is about $37 million a quarter, or about $590 million over four years at the same pace, before tax and spending. We use $500 million for what is left of that plus his investments. |
| Houses | $0.05 billion | Documented purchases, converted by us. Wikipedia lists A$7.05 million, about A$100 million (Fairwater, 2018), A$17 million and A$12 million, which add up to about A$136 million. Fairwater was bought with his wife, and they separated in July 2023 with no public split, so we count half. A$68 million at about 0.70 US dollars (October 2026 average) is about $48 million. |
| Total | $9.63 billion | Rounded to $9.6 billion. |
The Atlassian row is the number. Everything else is small beside it. We take no discount for selling a block this large, which is one more reason the real figure could be lower.
What a bad week costs
StockAnalysis shows Atlassian closed at $220.12 on October 28, then fell 7.28 percent and 6.07 percent to $191.72 on October 30. By our calculation, that $28.40 drop on 47.34 million shares took $1.34 billion in two sessions. Against the 52-week high of $229.96, the gap is $1.81 billion. At the 52-week low of $56.01 the same shares would be $2.7 billion. That is below our range, which assumes the price stays well above its low, not that it can’t go back.
The company he built from credit cards
Wikipedia says Atlassian listed on Nasdaq in December 2015 at a market value of $4.37 billion. The October 30 value of $48.53 billion is 11.1 times that (our calculation: $48.53 billion divided by $4.37 billion). He became the sole CEO in September 2024 after co-founder Scott Farquhar stepped back.
Spending on the other side
In October 2021 he pledged to donate and invest $1.5 billion on climate projects by 2030. In 2022 he became AGL Energy’s largest shareholder, and a Reuters headline that November said he won a board fight there. In May 2023 Grok Ventures outbid Andrew Forrest and others for the failed solar export project Sun Cable. In 2018 he and his wife paid about A$100 million for Fairwater, which Wikipedia calls Australia’s most expensive house, and he owns a Bombardier Global 7500 jet. The pledge is three times our Grok row. We deduct nothing for it because part of it is investment that stays on his books, but no one outside can see how much has gone out as gifts.
Why other estimates disagree
Public figures for him are quoted in Australian dollars one day and US dollars the next, and most are set to a single share price. Some use an older 20 percent ownership figure, which adds about $0.6 billion at this price. Some older figures combined his holdings with his wife’s. Our figure is tied to one dated price and one filed share count.
What would move the figure
Atlassian’s price decides it: each $10 is worth about $0.47 billion to him (47.34 million shares times $10). A later filing would update the share count, and a disclosed Grok Ventures balance sheet would replace our assumption.
