Larry Page was born in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Carl Victor Page Sr., a computer science professor, and Gloria, a computer programming instructor. As a child he played saxophone and showed an early interest in computers, becoming the first kid in his elementary school to turn in an assignment from a word processor. He attended Okemos Montessori School and East Lansing High School and spent two summers at Interlochen Center for the Arts. He earned a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from the University of Michigan with honors, then went to Stanford for a master’s degree and PhD studies. There he met Sergey Brin, and his adviser Terry Winograd encouraged him to study the web’s link structure, leading to BackRub and PageRank, the foundation of Google.
