How much is Rakesh Jhunjhunwala worth in 2026?
We put the fortune he built at about $6.8 billion. The portfolio is now held by his family, led by his widow Rekha Jhunjhunwala, who was a stock market investor herself, so part of what is counted below may always have been hers. We count the whole family portfolio because no filing splits it, and say so rather than guess a split. The portfolio value is from December 2025, the latest dated total we could open, so it is eleven months old. Rupee amounts are converted at ?95 to the dollar, the rate we use for early November 2026.
How Rakesh Jhunjhunwala built it
- Started small in 1985. He began investing in 1985 with ₹5,000 and made his first big profit, ₹5 lakh, in 1986.
- Held Titan for years. The family's Titan stake was worth about ₹21,190 crore in April 2026, against ₹7,294.8 crore for his holding in 2021.
- Put money into an airline. He backed Akasa Air in 2021, and flights began a week before he died in August 2022.

| Source | Our estimate | What it rests on |
|---|---|---|
| Listed stock portfolio | $6.63 billion | Documented but dated. Business Today, citing Trendlyne data, reported the family portfolio at ?62,994 crore in December 2025, up from ?50,310 crore at the end of 2024. At ?95 that is $6.63 billion. Prices have moved since, so the lower end of our range assumes a 25 percent fall. |
| Akasa Air stake | $0.04 billion | Assumption. The Oman Observer reported on 14 August 2022 that he had invested $35 million for an estimated 40 percent. Wikipedia says $400 million for 40 percent, which conflicts. We carry the lower figure at cost, about $0.04 billion, because we found no valuation of the airline. |
| Property, unlisted holdings and cash | $0.13 billion | Assumption. Nothing is published, so we allow about 2 percent of the listed portfolio. |
| Planned gifts to charity | $0 | He had planned to give a quarter of his wealth to charity. We found no record that this has moved, so we do not deduct it. If it were carried out in full it would remove about $1.7 billion. |
| Total | $6.8 billion | Sum of the rows above. |
Only the first row has documents behind it. Because we cannot split the family’s holdings between him and his widow, this is the fortune he started, not a legal statement of whose it is.
Titan, the stock that carried it
A Business Today report in April 2026 put Rekha Jhunjhunwala’s 5.31 percent of Titan at ?21,190 crore on April 8, 2026, after the shares hit a record ?4,504. By our calculation, the 5.32 percent stake was ?18,794 crore at 30 September 2025 prices, about 30 percent of the December 2025 portfolio (?18,794 crore divided by ?62,994 crore; the dates differ, so it is approximate). In 2021, according to Wikipedia, his Titan holding was worth ?7,294.8 crore, so the April 2026 figure is about 2.9 times as much (?21,190 crore divided by ?7,294.8 crore), though the 2021 number may cover only his own name.
Doubling in three years
Taking Business Today‘s figures, the family portfolio was ?33,517 crore at the end of 2022 and ?62,994 crore in December 2025. That is 1.88 times the earlier figure (?62,994 crore divided by ?33,517 crore), or about 23 percent a year. The year was uneven inside: Titan rose 22 percent, while Concord Biotech fell 37 percent and Star Health about 7 percent.
Why other estimates disagree
Older public estimates date from his death in 2022, before three years of gains. Estimates also differ on whether the family portfolio counts as his, since part of it was Rekha’s. We include it all and say so.
What would move the figure
Titan’s price comes first, since the April 2026 stake of ?21,190 crore is $2.23 billion at ?95, and a 10 percent move in it is about $0.22 billion. The second is a published estate plan or a charity transfer. The Oman Observer’s report of 14 August 2022 put Akasa Air’s first flight about a week before his death; an outside valuation of the airline would sharpen the Akasa row.
