How much is Ryan Murphy Worth? Ryan Murphy Net Worth in 2026
Ryan Murphy’s net worth is estimated at $220 million as of November 2026. The $300 million Netflix deal gets the headlines, yet after tax we think it left him about $137.5 million, and the choice to take it over staying put was worth far less than the number suggests. This one is a rough estimate: much of his pay since 2023 is undisclosed. He created Glee and American Horror Story and has six Primetime Emmys.

How much is Ryan Murphy worth in 2026?
Our figure is $220 million, in a range of $150 million to $320 million. Two of his contracts have reported values. The Disney deal does not, and neither does his share of show profits, so those rows are assumptions and they carry a lot of the weight.
Public estimates differ mainly on how they treat those contracts. Add up gross deal values and you reach about $576 million on the Fox, Netflix and Disney rows alone, as if he kept every dollar. An overall deal is taxed like other income, and part of its value may depend on what gets made. Half of a nine-figure contract is still a lot, and it is still half.
How Ryan Murphy built it
- Passed on a renewal to move. He turned down a renewal offer from 20th Century Television to sign with Netflix in 2018.
- Took a share of the show. His 2010 deal paid $24 million plus a share of Glee profits and music revenue.
- Renovated homes, then listed them. He bought Tom Ford's former Neutra house, renovated it and listed it for $33.9 million.

| Source | Our estimate | What it rests on |
|---|---|---|
| Fox era, 2003 to 2018, after tax | $84 million | A four-year, $24 million deal in 2010 with a share of Glee profits and music. Assumption: $14 million before that, $80 million from 2014 to 2018, $50 million in profits, for $168 million gross, half kept. |
| Netflix, 2018 to 2023, after tax | $137.5 million | Reported at $250 million to $300 million, over five years. We use the $275 million midpoint and keep half, assuming the whole amount was paid. |
| Disney, July 2023 to now, after tax | $66.5 million | No terms were reported. Assumption: a start when the Netflix deal ended in June 2023, and $40 million a year, the top of what Fox reportedly offered in 2018. Over 3.33 years that is $133 million, half kept. |
| Gains on homes sold | $4.5 million | Beverly Hills: Galerie reports $10 million in and $16.25 million out, in 2021. Laguna Beach: just under $8 million, sold for $10.65 million. That is about $8.9 million of gains. Assumption: half went on renovation and tax. |
| Living costs and art | minus $75 million | Assumption: $5 million a year for the 15 years or so since the 2010 deal. He buys, renovates and resells serious houses. |
| Total | $217.5 million | Rounded to $220 million. His homes sit inside this total, since after-tax income paid for them. |
The Netflix decision, priced
When Netflix came calling, Fox was not offering peanuts. A Hollywood Reporter story, which we could read only as a search excerpt because the page is paywalled, said sources estimated 20th Television’s offer at $35 million to $40 million a year. Over five years that comes to $175 million to $200 million. Set against the reported $250 million to $300 million, the jump was worth $50 million to $125 million gross, by our math. Keep half for tax and it comes to $25 million to $62.5 million, or 11 to 28 percent of our $220 million.
So the most famous move in his career probably added about a fifth of his fortune, and the rest would likely have come anyway. Compare 2010, when $6 million a year was described as one of the biggest deals for a TV writer-producer, though one source disputed that. Netflix’s yearly number was 8 to 10 times that.
Roughly 30 percent of the money may be in houses
Murphy shops at the level of film stars, which helps because some of the sellers were. He bought Diane Keaton’s Beverly Hills house for $10 million in 2010, then paid Richard Gere $24.15 million for a Pound Ridge estate in 2022. He and his husband bought Tom Ford’s former Neutra house in Bel Air in 2022 and renovated it, then listed it for $33.9 million in June 2024. His Sullivan Canyon equestrian property cost $7.15 million in 2021 and went up for sale at $10.59 million.
By our calculation Pound Ridge, Bel Air and Sullivan Canyon add up to $65.2 million at purchase or list price, about 30 percent of our total. We couldn’t confirm whether the two listings have since sold, so this is an outline and not a property register. The Laguna Beach sale is the cautionary one: listed at $18.75 million, settled at $10.65 million in September 2020.
What he is working on, and what would move the figure
The latest money event we can document is the 2023 return to Disney, and no price for it has surfaced in the three years since. The work has kept coming: All’s Fair and 9-1-1: Nashville in 2025, The Beauty on FX in 2026, and The Shards, which wrapped filming in March 2026. Monster: The Ed Gein Story landed in October 2025.
A reported Disney figure would change the number most: every $10 million a year above or below our assumption moves the total by about $16.7 million after tax. A renewal or expiry of that deal would come next, along with any sale of the Bel Air house above what he paid.
