How we got to $32 billion

Source Our estimate What it rests on
Blackstone stake $28.0 billion Wikipedia gives his stake as roughly 19 percent, and a March 2026 report of his 2025 pay (FA Magazine) says roughly 20 percent, which would make this row $29.5 billion. A market data page gave Blackstone a market value of about $147.4 billion on 30 October 2026, and 19 percent of that is $28.0 billion.
Cash and investments outside Blackstone $4.0 billion He sold part of his stake for $684 million at the June 2007 IPO and has taken years of pay, including $786 million in 2017 and $1.24 billion in 2025. We assume $4 billion remains after tax and gifts. Assumption.
Homes $0.3 billion A duplex at 740 Park Avenue, the Wiltshire estate Conholt Park of about 2,500 acres, and the Newport mansion Miramar, bought in 2021 for $27 million. Values other than Miramar are our assumption.
Total $32 billion The rows sum to $32.3 billion, rounded.

Public estimates are well above ours. The most likely gap is the partnership units that founders hold, which a company market value may not fully count, and carried interest not yet paid. We have not been able to confirm either, so our range runs from $28 billion to $45 billion.

A dividend that is 89 percent of his year

His public biography puts his 2025 income at $1.24 billion: $1.1 billion in dividends plus $125.6 million in incentive fees and carried interest. By our calculation, dividends were 89 percent of the total ($1.1 billion divided by $1.24 billion), about $3.0 million a day. In 2024 the split was $916 million in dividends and $84 million in salary and incentive fees, so 92 percent came from owning shares. Against our $28.0 billion stake, $1.1 billion is a yield of 3.9 percent.

What he has given away

The same biography lists gifts of $100 million to the New York Public Library in 2008, $100 million for Schwarzman Scholars in 2013, $150 million to Yale in 2015, $350 million to MIT in 2018 and £150 million to Oxford in 2019. By our calculation the four dollar gifts total $700 million, less than the $1.24 billion he received in 2025 alone, and the Oxford gift comes on top. The page also cites an early 2026 Wall Street Journal report that his foundation aims to become one of the ten largest private foundations in the United States.

The 2007 sale

At the June 2007 IPO he sold part of his stake for $684 million and kept a stake then worth $9.1 billion. Our calculation: the 30 October 2026 market value of his 19 percent, $28.0 billion, is three times that 2007 value, even before the dividends he has taken since. Blackstone’s assets under management reached $1.3 trillion in the first quarter of 2026.

Why other estimates disagree

Public estimates differ on how they count his units, how they treat unpaid carried interest and which share price they use. Some also date from months when Blackstone traded higher. We use the price on 30 October 2026 and count only the stake and the cash row.

What would move the number

The Blackstone share price moves the headline by about $280 million for each 1 percent. Further gifts to his foundation would reduce it. A secondary sale of shares would move value from the stake row to the cash row.
