How much is Troy Aikman worth in 2026?

Our figure is $150 million, in a range of $100 million to $200 million. This one is a rough estimate: the NFL and ESPN deals are on the record, but his 21 years of Fox pay and the size of his business stakes are not, and those gaps drive the range.

Public estimates vary, and older ones can’t include most of the ESPN money. The deal adds $18 million a year before tax, so a page written in 2022 is out by a wide margin even if it was right then.

How Troy Aikman built it

  • Moved straight into broadcasting. He retired in April 2001 and joined Fox as a commentator that same year.
  • Built a second career that paid more. Fox and ESPN have paid about 2.9 times his NFL money on our estimates.
  • Put his name on a beer. He launched EIGHT in 2022 with seed money from family and friends.

How we got to $150 million

Source Our estimate What it rests on
NFL contracts $57.5 million An $11.2 million, six-year rookie deal, of which we count four years ($7.5 million), then $50 million over eight years with an $11 million signing bonus. Assumption: both paid in full.
Fox, 2001 to 2021 $84 million Twenty-one seasons, pay undisclosed in the pages we opened. Assumption: an average of $4 million a year, starting low and rising.
ESPN, 2022 to now $84 million Five years, $90 million, signed in 2022. We count 56 of 60 months through November 2026.
Endorsements and appearances $15 million Assumption: $500,000 a year for 30 years. No contract is public.
Income tax minus $96.2 million Assumption: 40 percent of the $240.5 million above.
Living costs minus $74 million Assumption: $2 million a year for 37 years.
Returns on savings $55.4 million Assumption: $70.3 million saved evenly over 37 years, growing 3 percent a year, reaches $125.7 million.
Business stakes $20 million Assumption: $5 million for EIGHT, which he owns with partners, $10 million for a part-share of the San Diego Padres, $5 million for the car dealerships he has owned and a restaurant. No stake size is public.
Total $150 million Rows sum to $145.7 million, which we round to $150 million since this is a rough estimate.

The second career paid better than the first

By our calculation, Fox and ESPN come to $168 million against $57.5 million from the Cowboys, or 2.9 to 1. The yearly pay is starker. His record 1993 contract averaged $6.25 million a season, topping Steve Young’s $5.35 million, and ESPN pays $18 million, also 2.9 times as much, for sitting down.

The NFL money ended oddly. According to his career record, a $70 million, seven-year extension was due in the 2001 offseason, Dallas waived him first, and he retired that April. Fox hired him the same year.

A beer that hasn’t paid off yet

EIGHT, named for his jersey number, launched in Texas in 2022. Seed money came from family and friends, and he told Front Office Sports the raise was easy. By March 2023 it was in more than half of Texas grocery stores after a second funding round. Then the trade data turned. Beer Insights said in September 2025 that EIGHT was declining double digits again in tracked off-premise channels. That is why we carry it at only $5 million.

His other ventures have mixed results as well. Hall of Fame Racing, the NASCAR team he co-owned with Roger Staubach, closed after the 2009 season.

February 2027 is the number to watch

This is his last season under the ESPN deal, and reporting in September 2026 said no extension was close and that ESPN wouldn’t discuss talent contracts until after the Super Bowl on February 14, 2027. Joe Buck has already signed for six years and $108 million, the same $18 million a year. His contract runs out in March, and an offseason consulting role with the Dolphins is no longer a formal agreement. He turns 60 on November 21, 2026.

Each year at $18 million leaves $10.8 million after our 40 percent tax, which is about 7.2 percent of his net worth, every year he keeps working. Front Office Sports worked out that a 20 percent raise would put him at $21.6 million a year. Walking away would freeze the largest moving part of this ledger.
