The richest person in Switzerland is Hansjoerg Wyss, a self made billionaire that deserves nothing but respect.
He came in to America in 1958 to work for the Colorado Highway Department. From 1965 to 1969, he worked in various positions in the textile industry, including plant engineer and project manager for Chrysler in Pakistan, Turkey, and the Philippines.
It was in 1974 when he founded Synthes USA, the US division of Synthes, a firm manufacturing Swiss-designed medical devices for orthopedic and trauma surgery.
However, he sold Synthes in 2012 to Johnson & Johnson for $20.2 billion in cash and stock.
Over the years, he used his money to support the things he loved and believed in. For instance, he donated $125 million to Harvard, made donations to The Trust for Public Land, has been an outspoken African peace advocate and a generous contributor to many European museums.
