Sexy, fit, hot, skinny. These are probably the words that come to everyone’s mind when they think about models.
But how about smart or intelligent? Not so much. We are happy to announce you that opposed to what everyone says, models are indeed smart.
And we’re here to prove that models aren’t just pretty faces. Today we are talking about the 10 smartest models in the world.
So a big round of applause for the girls who managed to have a modelling career and to earn their education on the side, because it’s not an easy thing to do when you have to fly all over the world for photoshoots and important events.
So in no particular order, let’s see who are these most intelligent models out there!
1.Lily Cole
The first smart supermodel we are talking about is Lily Cole.
The English beauty gained a place at Cambridge, within the Social and Political Science department, but she deferred twice because of her busy schedule.
Cole wasn’t put off by that, and she switched to Art History in 2008. After 3 busy years, the supermodel graduated, and was awarded a Double First, that meaning she finished university cum laude.
This is a remarkable achievement for the star, who as well as modelling is also carving out a reputation as a respected actress.

2.Christy Turlington
One of the smartest models out there is Christy Turlington.
The 90’s model was one of the biggest names in the business, and she is still looking stunning, even if she is a mom of two.
The ex-model who started her career at only 14, was smart enough to not give up on school, and earned a B.A in Comparative Religion and Eastern Philosophy from NYU. After she returned to modelling she thought that would be only a temporary job.
It seems like it wasn’t, and now when she finally has more free time she returned to school to get a a masters degree in Public Health at Columbia University.
I have to admit, that is quite impressive.
“My career fell into my lap. I thought maybe it would last two or three years, but that didn’t happen and I had to stop it myself.”

The next intelligent model is Iman.
David Bowie is one lucky man for sure. Not only his wife is a world-wide known model, but she’s got the brains! Iman was born in Somali, and studied five languages and political science at the University of Nairobi.
A role model for all the black women in the industry and all over the world, Iman was working as a translator to earn money for he studies, when a photographer discovered her.
Her elegance, and the signature neck and high forehead made her famous. Iman was an icon in the 90’s when she was:
“helping to open the door to black and minority women who wanted to enter the modeling industry.”

4.Cindy Crawford
One of the most intelligent models is Cindy Crawford.
Before starting her modelling career, the beautiful Cindy Crawford wanted to be a Chemical Engineer. After graduating high school as a valedictorian, Crawford received a full scholarship to study at Northwestern University.
She attended just a semester, because winning Elle Model Management’s Look of the Year award happened. And we thank the world for that. And Cindy probably does the same.
In 1995 she was the highest paid model in the world, and became one of the most successful supermodels and business women out there.
I guess we can all agree that we like her more as a model than as a Chemical Engineer, right?

5.Cameron Russell
One of the smartest, most ambitious models is Cameron Russell.
The sexy Victoria’s Secret Angel believes that looks aren’t everything, her being set for a career in politics. Before getting her wings, Russell met Bill Clinton, whose words of encouragement helped her not give up on education:
“Stay in school, get to know as many different types of people as you can, and understand their dreams and aspirations.”
The model studied in Economics and Mathematics at Columbia University, and in 2005, with a bright mind and sexy looks, she became a model for Victoria’s Secret. She is known for encouraging girls to study, her giving an inspiring presentation to Tedxmidatlantic titled Looks Aren’t Everything.

6.Tyra Banks
How could we have not included Tyra Banks in our list?
The 80’s model phenomenon is not just one of the most successful models and business women out there, she is smart as well.
Besides her famous ANTM franchise and her TZONE program for girls, Tyra is a supporter of education and hard work, and the best example she can give is herself.
The model enrolled in Harvard’s Owner/President Management Program and graduated with a certificate from the Executive Education Training Program in 2012.
So with a Harvard Business School diploma, and her stunning looks, is there anything Tyra Banks doesn’t have? The model has been declared by Time magazine as one of the world’s most influential people.
Banks knows how to market herself as a brand very well, her saying:
“A smart model is a good model.”

7.Karlie Kloss
And on number 7 we have one of the smartest models in the world, and an ambitious woman as well, Karlie Kloss.
Who said that models don’t have big dreams? They surely do, and Kloss is here to prove it. The young lingerie model might disappear from the Victoria’s Secret runway soon, because she wants to study.
After being in the business since she was only 14 years old, Karlie decided to focus on her studies and enrolled in the Business of Entertainment, Media and Sports course at Harvard.
“I will fit in. That is the great thing: I’m 20 years old! I feel fortunate to have an incredible career and experiences behind me but there is so much more that I want to do with this career and with my life.”
She has big dreams, and we applaud her for that. Kloss is also a kind-hearted model, her creating a recipe for Karlie’s Kookies, the treats being sold at Fashion’s Night Out in NYC. The money were donated to FEED, which fights against child-hunger around the world.

8.Joan Smalls
One of the smartest models in the world is Joan Small.
The beautiful Puerto Rican fashion model is not just a pretty face and a hot body, her aspiring to be a psychologist.
Even though Smalls could be a psychologist thanks to her degree from the InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico, she decided to hit the runways, and that was probably one of the smartest thing she ever did.
Joan Smalls was ranked the #1 model in the world and #8 on the list of the world’s highest paid models. Smalls is also appreciated by big names, such as the legendary Cindy Crawford, whom we saw earlier in the top:
“Joan Smalls is one of my favorite new models. I first noticed her when she appeared as the new face of Estee Lauder. This girl has GORGEOUS skin! She has great style – sexy and elegant with a touch of tomboy thrown in! And she showed off her great moves in the Yonce video!”

9.Gemma Ward
Another intelligent model is Gemma Ward.
Discovered when she was only 14 years old, the Australian supermodel wasted no time and by the age of 15 she was rocking the Australian Fashion Week runways.
Gemma was the youngest model to appear on the cover of the American Vogue, and was also cast in movies such as Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
But it’s not all about being pretty, because Ward attended the Presbyterian Ladies’ College and Shenton College, in Perth, Australia, and she also took some time off to attend Yale.
The model took acting classes as well, and travelled to Rio de Janeiro because it seems like she has:
“a view to doing something there in the future.”
Ward took a long break from modelling, the media saying that she had weight problems, not being the skinny-0-size model that she was.
Gemma replied:
“In terms of me shying away from modelling, I’d like to clarify in some way that I was taking a break from many things in my life and obviously what people in the public see is that I’m pulling away from what is more ‘public’. I didn’t know how long it would take, I didn’t know if it would solve anything, but I set out to really focus inside myself.”

The 30-years old ex model was a pageant winner and at only 15 years old, she was Miss UK International.
Shields was signed to Elite Model Management and appeared in numerous magazines, being listed in Stuff magazine’s 101 sexiest women online in 2005.
The pretty model ended her career in order to focus on her studies, her earning a masters degree in chemical engineering from Leeds University.
Laura is also a member of the high-IQ society genius-club Mensa.
