She firstly appeared publicly at the age of 7 in Bob Marley’s Is this love?.
At only 15 years old she began her modeling career, becoming the first black woman to appear on the cover of French Vogue at 18. She was also the first black model to appear on the cover of British Vogue and Time.
Although the hot, long-legged exotic beauty began her career on the catwalk she quickly emerged into doing high-profile advertising campaigns for fashion icons such as Ralph Lauren and Francois Nars.
As she became a mature woman, Naomi also posed for more erotic fare, appearing in the Playboy magazine and Madonna’s book Sex.
One thing you may not now about Campbell is that she is hard to work with.Numerous times has her hot temper gotten her into trouble with the law! Not nice!
This year, the supermodel declared that she wants children whether she has a man or not! You gotta give her credit for that.
2.Claudia Schiffer-Age:43
She began her modeling career in 1987 when a modeling scout convinced her to go to Paris to try her luck!
Shortly after,the baby blue-eyed model was chosen by designer Karl Lagerfeld to become the face of the famous Chanel line!
You must think that she hit the jackpot, well she did! But that’s not all! She later starred in a world-wide famous campaign for Guess Jeans that launched her into stardom!
She appeared on the cover of over 500 magazines including Vogue, Rolling Stone and Cosmopolitan.
Today,she is happily married to film director and producer Matthew Vaughn and has 3 kids!
3.Kate Moss-Age:40
The pioneer of the ‘waif’ look was discovered at the JFK airport in New York at the age of 14.She appeared on the cover of over 500 magazines including Vogue and Playboy.
She firstly appeared on the cover of Vogue in 1993 confessing to VogueTV that it is her favourite of all the covers she did.
The heroin-chic chick is best known for posing in Calvin Klein underwear and posing nude for ad campaigns for perfume Obsession.
She once dated bad boy Johnny Depp but today she is wife to The Kills guitarist Jamie Hince and has a daughter from a previous relationship with Jefferson Hack.
4.Christy Turlington-Age:45
She was discovered when a photographer asked to take her photo while riding a horse. The photo somehow found its was to a modeling agency marking the beginning of her career.
Today, she is one of the country’s most successful model, best known for her collaboration with Calvin Klein, Maybelline and Georgio Armani, appearing on more than 300 magazine covers.
She was also declared as the “Face of the 20th century” by the Metropolitan Museum of Arts for her perfect features.
In the present she is an entrepreneur and an activist,focusing on her charity Every Mother Counts, and is happily married to actor-filmmaker Edward Burns since 2003. They have two kids together-a girl and a boy!
5.Linda Evangelista-Age:49
Linda Evangelista is one of the Big Six to step on the catwalk saying that models like herself don’t get out of bed for less than $10,000 a day!
Her changing of hairstyles gave her the nickname “Chameleon” but when she firstly cut her long her she shocked the fashion industry- 16 of her 20 shows being cancelled.
Her modeling career nearly came to a screeching halt when she was asked to pose nude at a shoot in Japan. The supermodel refused and then flew back home contemplating her retreat from the fashion industry.
Obviously,her modeling career didn’t come to an end appearing on Vogue covers, doing campaign adverts for L’Oreal and Prada!
As for her personal life she was rather unfortunate and has been married only once with model agency boss Gerald Marie From 1987 to 1993.
6.Cindy Crawford-Age:48
Supermodel Cindy Crawford drew fame her way due to her athletic build and all-American looks.
Among Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell they became more than nameless gals posing for magazines. They became stars and as they rose to fame they became rivals to musicians and movie stars.
She left college to pursue her modeling career. Because of her superb body with the classic 34B-24-35 measurement and her trademark mole she met no difficulties making her way through this tough industry.
During her modeling career she represented some well-known brands such as Gianni Versace, Escada, Revlon and also signed a million dollar deal to promote Pepsi!
In 2000 she quit modeling, creating her own line of beauty products and launching a furniture line. She returned to modeling in 2011 appearing on the cover of Vogue Mexico.
7.Kathy Ireland-Age:51
Kathy started working as a model in the early 1980s and soon became one of the most popular models of the era.
She had a career breakthrough because of her work in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues.
After launching her first product line she created the very successful company Kathy Ireland Worldwide.
Although she was a model and an actress the role of a business woman seemed to fit her best!
Due to her entrepreneurial success, in 2012 she appeared on a different type of cover. Forbes magazine nicknamed her “Supermogul” for her tremendous success.
8.Carol Alt-Age:53
Carol Alt was discovered while she was waitressing at a local stake house by a photographer.
Although she had great success and by 1980 she appeared on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar she didn’t embody the diva attitude.
She claims that she never considered herself the most beautiful and sexiest woman as most of the magazines deemed her to be. Instead, she owes her success to hard work and creativity.
Although she had a great success as an actress, Alt switched the modeling business for an acting career. She appeared in numerous Italian movies and TV shows.
But that’s not the end of it! In 2004 she published her first book Eating in the Raw:A Beginner’s Guide to Getting Slimmer, Feeling Healthier, and Looking Younger the Raw-Food Way.
Yep, she underwent another career change becoming a raw foods specialist and author!
9.Brooke Shields-Age:49
With her father being a Revlon executive and her mother being a model, Brooke was in the public eye since she was born!
She was more of an actress rather than a model (Yep, it’s the girl from the movie Blue Lagoon!) but that didn’t stop her to cause a sensation with her advertisements for Calvin Klein jeans.
In 1993 Shields appeared on the cover of Paris,American and Italian Vogue. She was a modeling sensation!
Today she is married to professional tennis player Andre Agassi and they have two daughters together-Rowan Frances and Grier Hammond.
10.Carmen Dell’Orefice-Age:83
If you’ve been wondering what a legend looks like, take a look below. Carmen Dell’Orefice is 83 years old and has been a supermodel for more than 60 years!
As a little girl, Carmen studied ballet and one day as she was riding the bus to her ballet lesson a woman approached her asking if she would like to model.
After the first session with the woman’s photographer-husband, Carmen was deemed as “un-photogenic” but that didn’t stop her.
In 1945 she gave modeling another shot when her godfather elected her to be presented to Carol Philips, a staff writer at Vogue.
Undoubtedly, the results were dynamite and no less than a week later she was being photographer for her first Vogue magazine spread of 7 pages.
Carmen was only 15 when she captured the first of her six Vogue covers and started working with definitive photographers of the day.
She did numerous campaigns for Revlon such as Queen of Diamonds, White Sable, Touch & Glow, Lanolite and Aquamarine Lotion.
She sacrificed her modeling career to become a mother but after the divorce she came back in business and never left since.
